S&W 1 1/2 cylinder

Does anyone know what this spanner nut does (other than act as the forward cylinder pin)?

The back side of the cylinder appears to have a pin inside as well, despite there being a larger cylinder pin on the frame. Annnnd while we are here, is there an easy way to fix up the teeth on the cylinder ratchet/star? 2 out of the 5 are worn, and the cylinder doesn't advance properly.

I think your cylinder advance problem might be a worn hand.

The hand looks pretty good. I just tried a some careful work with a hammer and punches and I was able to gently peen the two problem teeth back into shape. It works fine now.

Iv heard folks have tig welder up the teeth and ground down as needed. But some of the old metals do not take well to welding as they are soft. You can try using brass braze at home, wont last as long but easy to do

Steel is steel; crappy welds are due to improper preparation; dirty, oxidized metal.

BG, I could weld up your cylinder, but you would have to do the fitting with die grinder and needle files.
