S&W 1006 10mm

Just get a Glock 40 MOS instead: no machining required and, being a current production gun, spares parts are available. I don't know if anyone has ever mounted a red dot on the slide of a 3rd Generation S&W; it may not be possible.

A 1006 is a fairly rare gun that has been out of production for several years. It is best enjoyed as-is.

OK OK unanimous. You convinced me-no alterations. It shoots 10" low. Cant get a rear adjustable sight high enough to shoot dead center. ( its a stainless steel non ramp model) Just live with it?? Or can you buy a ramp rear or have a custom made adjustable?

10" low at 25 yards?

Shooting low can be fixed by using a shorter front sight, you can shave the current down, or replace it with a a shorterone easily becaue of the dovetail

I don't mean to be condescending, but the first thing is to make sure you aren't flinching. If your pistol really is shooting 10" low, the front sight can be filed to raise the point of impact. The amount the front sight needs to be lowered can be estimated from the following formula:

Change in point of impact / distance = sight adjustment / sight radius

With all distances in the same units. It is best to err slightly on the side of not taking off enough than taking off too much.

Numich Gun Parts has 1006/4506 front sights if you want an extra one to experiment with. It won't be cheap to order, but you wont be SOL if you file too much.

This front sight is already very low, white dot,so my only alternative is to raise the rear. But thank you for the advise. I already have among my other 10 handguns a SAA long colt and a 45ACP Kimber which give me great groupings at 50 ft. So I don't think its flinching. Will call the dealer in NY to see if they have an old ramp. But thanks to all for convincing me not to alter this gun, I didn't realise it was rare,I bought it from a widow whose husband died.

just to be sure before you alter this nice gun you know it this a handgun with combat sight so your sight picture should be like the one on the right if you are shooting target or 6 oclock with other it may be confusing when you change type of gun
no offence in that I sometime forget to adjust myself

Hi sir.
Give the gun a try with an experienced shooter.
10 inch low at 25 is quite unusual to say the least.
Then go to a gunsmith if the problem is really the GUN.

...they are combat sights.
If your description is what I think it is, Evolution Gun Works makes a red dot mount that fits in the slides existing dovetail (product number 49311) and can be imported through Gagnon Sports in Oshawa. This option means there is no machining of the pistol required, however, I have seen some beautiful pistols get bubba'd by people attempting to drift the OEM sights out of the dovetail. I think you live close enough to me, I have the correct tooling to accomplish this task if you want to do it.
