So I have been looking for a 9mm pistol and have recieved some great advice around here about CZ75's, S&W M&P's, Glocks....etc ( quite a debate that I never new existed being so new to pistols)

The the other day I got to hold a S&W 9mm 1911 ( didn't get to shoot it though). It felt so right in my hand.

Therefore I start loooking around for one. Found one for about $1500 but the dealer doesn't respond to my email's or PM's ?????.
Used ones are like a needle in a hay stack.
Is this because of cost or are they really not that good ??
Value for the money not there like in the other pistols I listed ?
Are they just not that great ??
Can't understand why there are not more of them out there ??

I believe the S&W 9mm 1911s are brand new this year.

I didn't know that. The one I handled was a RCMP issue. It would be 12.6
I think.

I will definately try to find a STI trojan if it is similar.

It is disapointing that the dealer that lists a S&W won't communicate with me ?? They even sponsor this site, it is how I found one.

Does anyone else know where I could find a new S&W 1911 in 9mm ??

RCMP don't carry 1911 pistols.

As for the S&W 1911 in 9MM, This is the first i've heard of it. I own the .45 ACP S&W 1911 series 80 and love it. Shoots great, light, higher end 1911's.

The RCMP have never been issued a S&W 1911 in 9MM. Up until a few years ago S&W did not make a 1911 in any caliber.

Take a look at the STI Trojan in 9MM. Great gun for the money.

Take Care

You held a 5946, right? S&W's classic autos are not 1911s but they are often confused with them. Excellent guns; they're extremely comfortable (as you've noticed), reliable, accurate, and are made out of good ol' steel.

There are a bunch of used S&Ws on the used market if you look hard enough. Most are prohib (like that 5946) but you can find lots of restricted-class models.

.. Bear in mind, that the RCMP "issued" pistol, S&W 5946, is DOUBLE ACTION ONLY and since it has the short, "Prohibited Barrel" , it's not available to mere Mortals. ..... David K

I have a WTB but if you ever see a restricted S&W like that 5946 let me know.

I would even consider buying that one from Frontier but trying to contact them by email or PM is hard.

Curious, why so interested in the 5946 pistol? Before you spend that kind of money on that firearm, check out some other ones first. Their is much better guns out there that will fit your hand just as good, or better for less.

Can I assume the STI Trojan is one example ?? I am open to any other suggestions but the STI Trojan is one that I think I am going to buy it really is just a matter of where to buy it.

Well, it would seem your a steal pistol guy - so am I.

STI pistols are a good choice, as long as it isn't the Spartan. The STI Trojan is a 1911 style pistol, their is many like it on the market.

My only suggestion to you is, buy something that your going to be happy with down the road. I have bought so many 1911's and sold them because I wasn't happy with them, and took the loss. Shop around, read about them, hold them, see if someone if your area has a 1911 style pistol in your club that you could try out. If your ever in Vancouver I would be more then willing to help you out.
