S&W 22a vs. Beretta Neos

I haven't ever tried the S&W 22A, but I do own a Neos.

When I was looking to buy a .22 pistol, I tried handling several different models at the store. Out of all the .22 handguns the store had, I handled Ruger MkII's and III's, several variations of the Buckmark, a SIG Mosquito, an old Nomad, and an old French MAB .22 pistol. Finally, I came to the Neos. For me, I found that the grip was a perfect fit for my hands. I also found that it balanced rather well in my hands. And the final selling point for me was the ambidextrous safety, since I'm left handed. Once I actually got to using it, it grew even more on me. She'll eat any ammo I throw in her without jamming, and disassembly is very simple to do.

Now for the drawbacks. The trigger is rather crappy on them. Also, a lot of people don't like the sights on them. However, the full length rail along the top allows for mounting a red dot or other optics on it, if you don't like the sights.

Anyways, that's my opinions and experience with the Neos.

i have the neos w/6" barrel and it an allright pistol. i had handled one at a gun shop, and it was nice fitting and i liked the fact it had a rail to mount optics/red dot, in fact the pistol included one when i bought it from a member here. I havent tried many types of ammo but it seems good with the blazer and federal bulk packs. once again the sights arent too good in my experience.

I have a 22A1. It eats most ammo except the Winchester Xpert HV and is very accurate but I have two dislikes:

1) The gun is heavy (doesn't seem too bad when you hold it for a couple of minutes) but after shooting it for a while it feels heavy.

2) Because of the placement of the mag release being at the front of the pistol grip I find that I am forever dropping the mag out of the gun by depressing it with my finger accidentally when getting a comfortable grip.

Hope this helps.

Hi,

There is a recall on the Neos. The firing pin has to be changed. Is there a Beretta service center in Canada? I don't see anything on the Beretta web site?

I have a 22a and love it. I have big hands so it fits nice. I like the mag release button as it makes it very easy to drop and replace the mag quickly. I would say I have well over
3K rounds down the pipe and as long as you keep it clean it shoots like a charm. It is a bit heavier than other 22 pistols but that is also something I wanted.

Stoeger Canada is the distributor of Beretta products in Canada, and they are the people to contact regarding the recall. The contact information for them is in this thread: http://www.canadiangunnutz.com/forum/showthread.php?t=514871

Right as of now, they are still awaiting the new firing pins from Beretta USA, who seem to be stalling on sending them. I've been put on a notification list by Stoeger Canada, so if there's any updates to the situation, they're supposedly going to call me. I hope the parts do get sent to them soon, because I shipped my Neos in to them back in October.

I have the S&W, my wife has the Neos. I like both of them a lot. They both eat cheapo winchester 555's with no problem. I shoot the Smith more so naturally I am more accurate with it. I like the feel of the Smith better because it seems a little more hefty. The Neos shows more quality and craftsmanship in it's construction, with smoother edges and nicer fit and finish. I like the mag release on the Smith. The Smith is less expensive. You can't go wrong with either I think.

The problem is there since october and nothing has been done yet!!! That is what I call service.......... I don't think there are millions of Neos out there; the problem should have been solved a long time ago...

Stoeger is still waiting on parts to be cleared for shipment from the States. It's an American bureaucracy thing, no fault of Stoeger Canada.

Never tried the Neos, but my gf has the 22a. I like it better than my Ruger Mk III 22/45. Neither gun has had any problems, but I find the 22a feels much more natural in my hand.
