OK i have a model 27-2 with 5'' mint shape what do they sell for and if i was to have it fitted for moon clips would that hurt the $$$$ of it

Its a .357? There are moon clips for .357? Yes, altering the cylinder is going to hurt the value. A 5" 27 is a pretty fine revolver. Don't bubba it up.

I agree with tiriaq--the 27-2 is definitely a classic as is. I would think that modding the cylinder to accept moon clips would definitely affect the collectors value. I'm curious why you're considering it--you can get pretty quick with a good speedloader reload. As for value...I'd say $550 to $600 or so.

The half moon clips are for the version of the N-frame that is chambered for the .45ACP cartridge. Being a rimless cartridge, the clips allow the round to be fired & extracted from the cylinder. In the model 27, as the .357Mag & 38 SPL are rimmed, half moon clips are not required.

yes, but some people like them as a speed reload option. Moon clips are faster then most speed loaders if used right. I'm not sure I'd have the cylinder done though, unless your building an IDPA or IPSC gun. Maybe buy a second cylinder and have it machined and fitted?

Thanks guy. I wasn't aware of that. Learn something every day.

I think that Smith has made modern revolvers that use clips in .38 Super, .45 ACP, .40 S&W. May be wrong, of course.
Are there moon clips for .357 Magnum? I have never heard of them. I have never heard of 27s being made in a calibre other than .357.

There were some J frames in 9mm that used clips too. The Model 27 was the first .357, if you're gonna cut a cylinder get a spare one fitted for clips and keep the original intact. Just don't expect the finish to match, Smith always put more effort into the 27's fit and finish than any other pistol (just try to find another Smith with a checkered top strap)

I had a 27-2 with a 5" barrel in mint shape .
It sold on here for $ 700.00 plus shipping approx a year ago .
What I found was the longer barrels were worth less money , mint stockers comanded the highest price .
5" models I've seen for sale are between $ 600.00 to $ 800.00 .
Please don't screw it up .
