I just ordered a S&W Performance Center Model 627 V-Comp. I got the stainless steel finish version with wood grips. I also ordered Hogue conversion grips with the squared off butt. Experience/comments anyone?

Happy Camper :)

While you're at it order up a Wolff spring kit. When you get it use the softest of the three hammer block springs and even then you may want to cut off a couple of coils to further soften the trigger return pressure.

The ONLY downside to the softer spring is that you may find you need to clean out the action a bit more often then if left stock. Like once per year instead of once every 5 years... :D

The reduction in double action pull and the woderfully light single action that you'll get with the spring kit will amaze you.

Before you install the spring kit you may want to stick some snap caps in and dry fire it about 1000 times over a day or two, depending on your poor worn out finger :D. Then when you install the spring kit be sure to clean out and relube the action. There will be SOME blackening of the oil in the action due to all the parts burnishing themselves to each other and it's not a bad thing to see that get washed out.

You're in for a very nice shooting gun.

Thanks. I haven't got my hands on it yet but will save your comments for after I have used in stock for a while. Believe it or not this will be only the second revolver I have ever fired. I bought based on internet reviews and the fact that "some guy named Jerry Micelek plays around with one :)

Did you get the JM grips with it?

I've got Hogue grips on one of my S&W's and frankly at the range for a cylinder or two they are great. But hold that puppy for a while on a hot day like we have at our Speed Steel shoots and the sweat makes the Hogues get slippery in a hurry. Mind you I have not shot with wood grips at these other than with my .22 semi so I don't have a lot to compare them to yet.

If Jerry actually shoots with those same wood grips I'd take that as an indicator that this may be a better way to go.

You thinking of trying some IPSC revolver with a bucket load of moon clips all loaded up?

Grips

I got the standard S&W grips but have seen the JM's on line. The stds have finger grooves but the JM do not appear to do so. After watching JM on a few videos, he could likely use a ripe banana and shoot with his toes. That man is a machine:) I have a six week delivery estimate and am waiting for other guns too but this one has me more excited than my SIG Pistols. This revolver is so ###y and I imagine that the Performance Center finish is superb. I've fired a Ruger .357 loaded with .38's but never anything like this sweet looking thang.

I have the black version of the V-comp. It is a sweet shooter. Real smooth DA pull, if a little heavy, SA is better than most. I never use the full moon clips as I am just bangin away at the range. I have a set of wood Hogue grips that I like but I was thinking of some Miculek grips one day. I have no doubt that you will enjoy your new baby! I will put some pics up if I get a chance.
