Trying to turn a S&W 39-2 with a 4” barrel to a restricted by rebarrelling with a 106mm barrel. Any suggestions of someone that could do it. Or where I could find a barrel in?

Thanks

It'll never be non restricted and remain a handgun. You are looking to rebarrel and change status from Prohibited to Restricted. Contact Bits of Pieces in Delta BC

I also own a very nice M39-2 that I plan to re-register as restricted. . In Vietnam, the US GI's special forces, were issued M39-2 with a slightly longer barrel that a silencer was screwed on. They called these "Hush Puppies". The reason being is: at night the US special forces would sneak up on enemy camps and the S&W 39-2 were used to silence the enemies guard dogs. As such, the name 'Hush Puppies" came to be.

The barrel sticks out past the slide about an inch and is threaded to attach the silencer. . I've been looking for one of these barrels but haven't been lucky so far.

I measured my 39-2 by sticking a dowel rod down the barrel and marking it straight across at the muzzle to a length of 105.5mm. There's considerable crown at the muzzle that adds a tad of length. Whether or not this would fly as restricted might be worth investigating. Try measuring your's the same and see what you get.

I like my 39 just as it is ;)

You can occasionally find restricted model 39 from the Factory. There Quality Control was off a bit and I have a restricted Model 39-2 nickel I picked up at an Auction.
