hi, I found a semi rare gun and wanted to know what it's generally worth. S&W 3rd generation 4006 .40 cal with restricted barrel, 5 mags, great condition. thanks

$500 with all the kit, tops. I couldn't get a single bite on my 12(6) 4006 a couple years ago for a lot less than that.

The 3rd Gen Smiths aren't exactly in high demand.

Think I paid $550 for my S&W 4006 used but as new in box with 2 mags and also a set of Hogue grips installed off the EE here ~ 3-4 years ago. It has the original factory barrel which is 4" and therefore 12(6). She shoots great but is a heavy sucker compared to the Glock 22 .40 cal I also shoot.

What maker of restricted barrel does the one you've come across have in it and what is the length of it?

I think that the main reason that 3rd Gen Smiths aren't in demand is that most of them are 12(6) like your 4006, and not many CGN member can even buy them. I can, but I already own one.
The 4006 is a very good pistol though a bit heavy, but it was the first handgun designed specifically for the 40 S&W cartridge so the extra weight helps with the recoil.
I think that a restricted version with 5 mags should sell for at least $550 if not more. I think that there are quite a few CGN members who would like a S&W auto that is usually 12(6) and now only restricted.
