Just a few questions, bought a used 460v (what a beast!) and think I may have afew issues on my hand.

The grips dont seem to fit right no matter how tight/loose i screw them on, there is a large gap behind the hammer, ive tried putting them on over and over...thery dont seem to fit.

Cylinder play...how much should tehre be front to back side to side? My Gp 100 seems to be tighter than the legendary S&W

rear sight is loose both front to back and side to sied, how do I tighten this (no user manual, only got the revolver + 1 comp)

Thanks in advance folks

1) Those grips don't sound original. The original grip is a black rubber isofrane grip. It's a one-piece grip held on by a screw on the bottom. I would NOT recommend any other grip than the factory recoil-reducing isofrane grip.

2) The gun came new with 2 sets of sights, one set for shooting .45 colt, and another set for 460V ammo. They are changed out with screws through the top strap. You should be able to tighten that.

3) I can;t comment on cylinder movement on your gun. It's the sort of thing that needs to be seen in-hand. Do you have a local gunsmith that can look at it to see if it's normal? If not, might be worth sending it to Murray Charlton Enterprises, the S&W warranty center in Canada, to have it checked. My 460V had cylinder issues right out of the box, it was covered under warranty (but then, I bought mine new from a dealer).

They look like original grips, just seems like screw is beat up/to long, not sure what to think, I know what it was supposed to come with, seller stated that his safe was stolen (which had all his gun boxes), Ill post pic tomrrow

I have none of these issues with my "used" 460V. Cylinder locks tight with the hammer at full-stand. Grips are snug and sights are on tight.
I don't recall an extra set of sights as per Claven2. I'll have to check the contents of the case.
Does your grip look like mine...?

Mine came with an extra front sight but not an extra rear sight. Is the grip held on with one single screw at the bottom of the grip?

As for cylinder play, you shouldn't expect it to lock up completely, there should be a certain amount of play. A little rotational play at full lock up is normal, say 1/32" or less. There should be no left to right play and very, very little front to back play.

As for the rear sight it is attached by the front screw and adjusted by the rear, make sure to put a dab of blue lock tite on the front screw as it tends to loosen. A very small amount of wiggle in the rear of the sight is normal.

So yes, the grips pictured are what I have, I tried to measure the left/right play: at full lockup it's about 1/32 of an inch, slightly more when not in lockup, there is way less front to back play. Im pretty frustrated with the grip problem as it came that way....

my 460 came with two sights as well , i believe one has white outline and the other is all black. my grip fits tight, however it feels like really squishy on the backstrap, i just assume this is the recoil reducing padding???, otherwise its fit is good. i've read that the k-frame round butt replacement grips will fit, however they dont provide much cushioning. you can try these from s&w's sight http://www.smith-wesson.com/webapp/...58003_757843_757839_ProductDisplayErrorView_N

The k-frame replacement grip may fit but it would look way too small on the X-frame. Besides you want the "squishy" OEM grip when you light up a few rounds of 460magnum!
Idunno1987 sounds like either the grip screw or nut may be stripped. Should be easy to figure out.
As for your cylinder play...you may want a smith or knowledgeable revolver guy to have a look. Hope you get it sorted out.....
