Hey, I have an oppurtunity to purchase a S&W 1006 in 10mm from a family member but am unsure as to how much I should initially offer him without offending him or looking cheap. He also has a smith and wesson model 17 I believe, in .22 that I'm interested in as well. Would 1000$ for both be unreasonable? Sorry if this is the wrong forum

The 5906 is a 9mm, not a 10mm.

Assuming that the guns are not 12(6) then they are worth about $1000-1300.

Your right, my mistake it's a 1006. I'm not to familiar with the smith and wesson auto's. Sorry. Neither of them are 12(6) as far as i know. The .22 had what looked like a 6" barrel and the 1006 i believe had a 5" barrel. Is there something I don't know about 10mm? Is it another "Evil" calibre?

1006/ Model 17

$1000.00 for both guns would be a very good deal--for you. :) A 1006 in very good to excellent condition is worth $700 or more, the Model 17 I'd say $500 or more, assuming both guns are in good shape. If they have factory boxes and paperwork even more.

SW 1006 and SW 4506 are build on the same platform only the bbl bore is different.
I can say that this platform is one of the most reliable of SW 3rd generation full metal stainless frame
A very accurate automatic with crisp trigger in SA mode and aprox 8 pounds on DA having a smooth and soft trigger (at least I can say that about my SW 4506)
Price can be btw 600-850 depend on out-inside condition, the rounds mileage and manuf year (check serials)
If you don't want it, there are a lot of guys on EE forum looking for one SW 1006 !!!

They are both pretty much brand new, they were used as Demo guns for the RCMP way back when.

I'd say $1500-$1800 would be fair for a minty M1006 and M17. :) If you don't end up buying the 1006 I'm sure there are a lot of people on CGN that would be interested (myself included;))
