Im torn, between these models, your help is needed !!!:runaway:

S&W 5946 9mm
STI Ranger II 9mm
Glock 17 9mm

Ive read and read and read, what I need is people who shot these babies to chime in and tell me how it is and to slap some sense into me because if i keep going back and forth much longer, i think i might go insane :runaway:

Thanks in advance

Unless you have 12(6) on your PAL you can drop the S&W5946 off the list right off the bat......(barrel is 4" or 101mm)

Of the remaining two, I'd recommend the Glock.....

1911 all the way...

The RangerII is one sweet little gun... its put together quite well and even in .45 the recoil is extremely light.

Its my personal preference, but I'd never even have a shred of consideration for a Glock over an STI 1911.

I'd definitely pick the STI or Glock (or both!) over the 5946. I owned a 5906 for a few years and really didn't like it. Sold it for a Glock and never looked back.

Yes, I am aware that the stock S&W 5946 is 12(6) , the one i am looking at has a legal lenght bar-sto barrel.

I love that STI Ranger, The only thing that's pissing me off is that I wouldnt be able to use it in production division because it's Single Action, and I wouldn't be able to use the 9mm model in the Standard division so I would have to go with the .45 ACP which if it wasn't for the price to shoot .45, I wouldn't have a problem.

Thanks for help guys, IPSC rules have cut out the STI and the S&W out of the line up. Even though the S&W meets all the requirements for production division, apparently the fact that it doesnt have the stock barrel lenght in there makes it modified and unuseable :( . Now my choosing mahem is goin towards the Glock 17, Steyr M-A1, CZ SP01, Tanfoglio.... etc..

I hope that the new Single Stack competition rage in the US will spread up into Canada, that way, 1911 single stack 9mm models will be good to go without scrutiny with the max power requirements.

Cheerz,

Rob

In that case I'll vote SP01... I just got one recently and I like it very much. Well built and its nice and hefty. The SA trigger pull has a bit of a long take-up but the pull itself is very light and crisp.

SW 5946 = 12-6
G17 = 10-rounds cap plastic
Ranger = single stack mag less cap? 1911 style (all steel)

Completely 3-different handguns.
If you're non 12-6 PAL, you have STI & Glock to choose from.
It's a matter of preference, would you go for a plastic double stack or all steel single stack?
I like both G17 & STI, but if asked between the two, personally I would opt to a way better product- STI. It's frame is way STRONGER and better crafsmanship (handfit, tight frame to slide fit and better frame material even better than some of the 1911's in the market).
One thing to keep in mind, in case you want to improve, customize, replace or modify your handgun, STI has the most after market parts option available compared to G17. 1911 is the way to go. :)

Good luck on your decision. :)

I am impartial to GLOCKS myself. I had a Browning Hi Power in the forces and while a fine pistol it took some getting used to.

GLOCKS are quick, very easy to field strip and to this date, I have NEVER had a jam with my GLOCK 17. Now I don't reload the 9mm so all it has ever eaten is factory..but I just ordered another 3k rounds which I go threw in about 4 months. (this is my 3rd order) you can do the math. NOT ONE JAM.

if you dont know how to take care a gun then get a Glock, it is a utility gun, but if you love a piece of art and function, you have no choice but a good well built 1911, in this case STI, nothing shoots like a 1911,

The 5946 DAO has a very heavy trigger but it shoots quite well. I would get the 5906 SA/DA if you have that option. Glocks are good too and I have not tried the STI.

The 'Smith is nice to use to hold spare targets down on the bench while you shoot so they don't blow away in the wind...

Of the other two, while personally, I don't mind Glocks I opt for the Ranger... ;)

How about the Sig?
The 5946 is ok. But not spectacular. It's reliable and durable. Accuracy is ok but nothing to write home about. The CZ75B is a more accurate firearm.

Not true. You would not be scored major, but shoot A's and it would not matter.

Now, on the other hand, if you want something that is competitive for IPSC, none of your choices are particularly competitive. Attend a match and see what the majority are using. It probably won't be difficult to make a decision then.
