Anyone have experience/own/shoot a S&W 610?

Shoots 10mmAuto and .40S&W with moon clips. :)

Certainly looks the business, IMO. Comments or thoughts? Anyone selling them?

I own an older one with a fluted cylinder. I use it for IDPA 'Enhanced Service Revolver' and IPSC 'Revolver Standard' competition.

this was a great wheel gun, I passed on buying one when they came out....I own a 4" one at my place down south.

most of you know I'm a huge 10mm fan....this is a great gun

i love my 5" 610 and it is one that will always be in my collection. THE most accurate 10mm i own. fantastic trigger pulls too.

i also had a 6.5" 2nd gen 610 with unfluted barrel like the one pictured above. It was nice, but pretty muzzle heavy and i sold it to a friend.

I Love CGN.

I've never actually laid eyes on one of these. Thanks for the info. Didn't think I needed a new revolver till I saw this one on a spec sheet. A 10mm with moon clips sounds like a reason for a new revolver.

If anyone has never used moonclips before I 110% recommend getting a de-mooning tool.. the steel moonclips are hell on the fingers... I got mine from Dillon Precision a few years ago... about $20 IIRC.

I purchased my 5" 610 back in 1992ish from the Firing Line here in Calgary. That was even before there was any loading data for 40SW. I had a couple Bren Tens so I had a bunch of 10mm ammo, but 40 was starting out. I had to do some load work. The first load I did with the 610 and 40SW ammo was a 165gr bullet that chronoed at 1660fps for the full 6 rounds. Didn't really notice much for pressure signs, but I still backed everything off after those.

Can't use any brass out of a Glock, as the base bulges too much, unless you roll or are able to size the full length.. I just can't with my dies. And haven't really worried or tried.

just checked the S& W website . They list a 6.5 inch barrelled 610 which will be Canada legal:)

BTW while the demooning tools are great get the aluminum tool - not the plastic one. My first one broke after 3 weeks. Called the company, eventually got a second one, it lasted 3 weeks. Gave up and got the aluminum one which I should have gotten the first time.

Stick to metal moon clips. I was at a IDPA match last Saturday in the US and one of the shooters was using a 4" 610 with some plastic moon clips ( I had never seen plastic moon clips). He was having lots of misfires till he switched to metal clips.

Why shoot 'Minor' and put yourself at a disadvantage? (Revolver Standard Division recognizes 'Major' at 170 PF.)

Because weight + long sight radius + inherent accuracy + low PF means you shoot all A's and have a quicker shot to shot transition time. That's the theory, at least.
