S&W 629 blows up

This may have been posted before you know how stuff gets around the internet . Well the story when a gentleman came into a local shop wanting to dispose of his new S&W 629 he went out to try some new loads there was a loud crack and part of the gun hit him in the forhead gashing it. well here's the pics.So what do you think wrong powder too much powder or both?

kinda looks like he used his 44 mag load in 44 special brass and pressure went up up and away....

Whatever it was, the person deserved what he got, and I hope he's learned a valuable lesson.

It sure came apart in a lot of places. I'd lean toward double charge, though it's impossible to say with any certainty.

Exactly what I said in the previous thread on the same story. You sir are a thief. But then again it is common knowledge that Ruger makes a better gun.

Lots of interesting things to see in that pic. Often when a top strap blows off, it stays attached at one end or the other, but not in this case. The gases cut into the brass of the round on each side firing it, the round on the right had enough confined pressure to fire the bullet, but the left chamber's round was not confined when it fired and the bullet only moved slightly forward, and the already damaged cylinder wall retained that bullet as indicated by the scratch below the cannelure. This indicates that the left chamber probably failed when the initial over load fired but the right chamber stayed somewhat intact until it's round fired. All 3 events occured in rapid succession, but in that order.
