S&W 629 canted barrel

Hi every one!! i bought, used, this gun without noticing the barrel... does any one know who can fix this? cylinder gap is not even both side and si too big!!
I like this gun but, i've to found a solution and our gunsmith around here have no time for it. or didnt know how to do it!!

Have you used a feeler gauge to measure the cylinder gap? How much is it, and how much bigger on one side than the other?

yess .011 one side and .013 other side.
You can see the barrel is screw too far when you look in front ove the gun... stange feeling haha

Not uncommon the barrel specs with S&W are very liberal if it shoots and groups well it is a moot point .If it bugs you ship it back to S&W but it will most likely come back the same .

What is the vintage on the revolver? new with lock or without lock? e.g 629 dash # ?

Interesting. I had one of that vintage with the same issue (canted barrel). Unfort, I was told there was not much that could be done, short of a re-barrel. In my case the seller accepted it back. I know of others who just figured out how to compensate and live with it. clearly spotty qa / qc at this time.

This is a 1992 classic model in stainless.
The gun shot well, the rear sight is almost screwed to the left to compensate.

The real problem is the gaz began to cut the top strap!! if i didnt do anything, i'll bring this nice gun to his own death!

You are right!!
My gun is sleeping in the gunsmith safe for over 6 month now... and is 150km from my home... ass soon as i can get it back, i'll take PICS... but until them, pardon me if i'm trying to find a better solution

If you have strap cutting issues I would look long and hard at your load data and is it leading or actual strap cutting ?

i am loading 44 spl till now... in the mid range load..
First thaught was for lead.... sadly it's not i use wipe out no lead to remove lead in my barrel!! as a new caster, i've to admid that i realy know how to lead a barrel! haha but i got nice result now! I cast for 45/70, this 44 and for my ruger blackhawk in 357/38 spl. soon 9mm too

Gas cutting of the top strap is a non-issue. It will only go so far and no further.

Yes, strap cutting is an accept phenomenon that occurs with several revolver calibres/loads.

Sounds like your revolver frame was drilled off centre, like many S&W revolvers. The barrel is only canted if your sights are, if not then it’s off centre. This would explain why your cylinder is not aligned with your forcing cone. Not sure if any gunsmith could fix this with out replacing the frame...
