Hi everybody,

Got a 1993 S&W 686 6" with a front red ramp

Does anybody here ever put a fiber optic front sight on this model ?

Looks like the ramp is one-piece with the barrel, so not removable

Thanks

The red ramp can be removed but it's metal behind/in front of the ramp, ie. the 'red ramp is a piece that's attached to the front sight. The whole front sight is held by a pin. Given the vintage of your 686 it's probably a solid pin wheras newer 686's use a roll pin. Have you thought about a McGivern front sight? Basically, a solid front sight with a gold bead. I put one on my 5" 686 and it's the cat's meow......

I got Meprolight night sights (tritium instead of fibre) for my new manufacture 686.

Pop pin out, loc tite blade in, drill new hole, pop pin back in.

Hardest part was finding a small enough drill bit (Princess Auto saves the day).

I don't see any pin to remove the front sight, seems like it's one-piece with the barrel. I'll check on for the McGivern sight but if you can give me the model you installed I'd appreciate

Thanks

Here's the link for the McGivern front sight. I ordered it from them. http://www.smith-wesson.com/webapp/...&langId=-1&parent_category_rn=16204&training=

These are all the sights S&W offers: http://www.smith-wesson.com/webapp/...=10001&catalogId=10001&categoryId=16204&top=Y

Here's a photo of the front sight on my 686 with the McGivern front sight. Both my 686's front sights are held in place by a pin. My newest 686 (the one in the photo) had a roll pin originally but I had it replaced it with a solid pin.

I would have to go and look, but I am sure that the early ones don't
have a pined site, one sold piece with the red insert glued??? in.

No pin either on mine....I guess it will have to pass the "grinder surgery" to have a new front sight... not sure if I want to modify it that much tho...

Does someone here ever see that kind of modification ??

Will it lose its "value" and look ?
