S&W 686 - Gun Runs Dirty

Fouling on stainless cylinders is a fact of life. Get over it. There are easier things to get all OCD over. Especially if you value actual shooting over having NIB guns to show off.

what if you value shooting AND having clean guns??

my preference and OCD requires me to clean each gun that gets shot, no matter how many times the trigger gets pulled. this way it functions as designed, as new because that is the condition it is in.

Over time there have been many tests done on guns, there is far more damage done to them by cleaning them rather then leaving them dirty. If you like them clean then clean them, it is that simple. If you do not mind them a little dirty then just shoot them Either way enjoy them and shoot them lots.

A gun that won't function 'as designed' even when fairly dirty is not functional at all. I routinely put 1000+ rounds through handguns before cleaning them, including semiautomatics, and I don't have any issues. It's fine to keep clean guns, but if you shoot a lot, the time spent on unnecessary cleanings adds up extremely quickly.

Besides, dirty revolver looks approximately one billion percent cooler than factory-clean ones. I consider a revolver with a squeaky clean cylinder face the firearm equivalent of manscaping.

I shoot a lot of HP38/WIN231 and it makes my stainless 686 dirty in no time. Its a smokey, dirty burning powder. Don't worry about it.

My personal loads are 3.8grn of HP38 with a 158grn cast lead boolit. I found that with anything less than 3.7grns, my accuracy wasn't as good.
