S&W 686 models

Thanks Boone,
I was looking for exact thing you posted but it only states the year the 686 was introduced. I saw a list one time that shows when each one came out and the changes over the previous model in the same format but for each 686 model. It had 686-1, 686-2, 686-3, 686-4, 686-5, and 686-6. It even made mention to the 7 shot unfulted but I just can't find the info anywhere

Anyone have the S&W serial number build date book around? wouldnt mind finding out my 686s birthday

I have looked for a book or list like that and have never found one for S&W handguns, you can get the info from Smith and Wesson but it will cost you $30.00. Other than that you will know roughly when your 686 was made by the dash number of your revolver.

The Standard Catalog of Smith & Wesson by Supica and Nahas has serial number listings.
Well beat me with a wet noodle, I own that book and never noticed that in the back until you mentioned it.
