S & W Ammo

I have been looking as well. From what I hear it is difficult, and expensive when you do find it. Hard to get bullets for reloading as well.(

I think East03 is asking about 38S&W which is NOT the same as .38spl.

38S&W bullets are .362 if I remember correctly.

I think starline makes brass, haven't a clue if factory ammo is available.

On a side note, I found a full box of Dominion 38S&W sitting on top the trash can at our range last year. I gave it away to another shooter in our club.

Remington makes 38 S& W and it should be available from any dealer--if they want to get it in. I have seen it from time to time at Wholesale sports in Saskatoon and Calgary. It is expensive. It can be found at gun shows from time to time.

It is fairly easy to reload if you have proper brass--regular .38 hollow base bullets can be loaded if you can't find proper diameter bullets--they will slug up in the bore and give pretty good accuracy.

If you reload this cartridge it is best to use fairly soft bullets--not hard cast--the hard cast will lead badly and not give very good accuracy.

S&W .38 Update

Paid a visit to my local dealer(not the narcotics kind). Found out that Winchester still manufacture .38 S&W and that it is available, at least in the Lower Mainland. I could get my hands on all the .38 S&W blanks I wanted...whatever. Apparently, the stuff is about $40/box.

East03...I was having the same trouble finding .38 S&W...picked up 100 round at the HAC show, but no other luck. However, a little birdie at the show mentioned that HUB Sports in Abbey had some. I phoned them and they no longer have any in stock but can order it in...try giving them a call.

I have managed to scrounge a couple of boxes of new stuff, one at a dealer, one at a gun show. I will for sure buy a couple more every chance I get. I have a nice old Victory to shoot. I will probably get dies and a mould and load a few too. Neat little cartridge.:p:p

I picked up some at wholesale sports for about $26/50 about 2 years ago. Then I bought some starline brass and cast my bullets.

What mold do you use? I understand the Webley/Enfields and S&W Victorys' shoot quite differently with the 200gr. round they were designed for.

38 S&w

Russells sells 38 S&W $24.00 for 50 rounds, LeBaron sells them for $27.50 for 50 rounds. I buy them regularly at leBarons because its close.

I use a lee two cavity mold in .358 180 gr I think. I would have to check to be certain. Technically these were supposed to be .361 but I checked my barrel and these were more than a tight fit.

Have you tried a 200gr bullet?

I'm curious because I'm in on the group purchase for the Lee 6 cavity/200 grain mold for .38 S&W, and I'd like to hear if other folks find much of a difference.

No I don't have a 200gr mold. What kind of deal are you getting on the group buy?

ww.cast boolits under group buy will give you all the details. I collect milsurps and thought it would be nice to shoot the original ammo. I have some but it is scarse as hens teeth.
