Just wondering what others are running as a muzzle device on their S&W FPC's.

Got one in the mail yesterday. I haven't shot it yet but I like the way it handles. The barrel is significantly more thin than I thought it would be but it makes sense, as this gun is designed to be carried, often very discreetly, more than shot.

My question to you then is what muzzle devices are you guys running on your FPC's?

I'd like to replace the thread cap with something more permanent. But I'd also like to keep the size small, so as not to be overly large in relation to the barrel. Ideally, I'd also like to not lengthen the gun more than I have to.

if you have any thoughts on this, I'd love to hear them. Thank you.

Glad you like the FPC, let us know what you think after a range trip or two. Can you clarify: If you want the device to be small in diameter and length, why not just stick with the thread protector?

Your FPC has the same options as with any threaded barrel 9mm PCC. Thread protector, flash hider, blast can, compensator, or brake (I'm sure I'm forgetting one type of device or another). There are fake suppressors if you like the look. There are pros and cons with each, just make sure the device is threaded right and bored for 9mm. We can offer more specific input if you let us know what you want to gain by adding a muzzle device.

Personally, my favourite things about the FPC are the short overall length and especially the neutral balance, so I'd want to minimize any additional length or weight attached to the muzzle.

Thanks for this. You bring up an excellent point. Sticking with the thread protector would likely be the best option, as I'd like it to remain as short and sleek as possible.

The main reason i'm looking at a muzzle device is to mostly act as a thread protector, but more of a permanent one than the included one. Something to protect the crown and that I don't have to worry about it threading itself out. I've done this numerous times on other rifles by just adding and A2 flash hider onto the end. It adds minimal length/girth and I'm not afraid of it unthreading on its own like I was with the original thread caps. If I can find something of the sort in 9mm maybe I'll go that direction.

No problem - I like the A2-profile flash hider. Not much flash to hide on a 18.5" barrel 9mm, but it might give you the "permanent" feature you want. They're a little harder to find for your thread pitch.

Threadlocker on the thread protector might work just fine, too. I've never had a thread protector work its way off, but you're right that it can happen. No o-ring holding it in place on the FPC?

I run nothing. I don't think you need anything. I wouldn't do any sort of brake because it would increase the noise level of 9mm to the shooter. I suspect for what most people buy these for they won't be fumbling around looking for ear pro.

I agree. Adding size and weight to foldable PCCs risks compromising their main USP. The extra 2" of Canada barrel is bad enough already.
That said a small light linear compensator (e.g. S&J Hardware Nano) may be worth it - throws sound and concussion forward in a tight space.

Read my mind, on all counts - The one muzzle device that gives an objective benefit, for my purposes, is a small linear compensator.

But honestly I think it's kind of a niche application. Depending on where you're shooting (mine is used exclusively outdoors), it can reduce the noise at the shooter's ear by a small but noticeable amount. It's probably not enough for most people to skip using hearing protection (unless they're also handloading specialty low-noise ammunition, maybe). But if you know you might be shooting without hearing protection, then I'd take "reduced hearing damage" over "full hearing damage" any day.

Any chance you could share a picture? Would love to see!

I was running a linear comp on mine for no other reason than because I could. I was curious what effect it would have if any. Apparently made it a bit more pleasant to stand next to and that’s about it. Didn’t feel much of a difference myself as the shooter

Which one did you use?
