S+W Highway Patrol

Have a older gentleman selling his S+W Highway Patrol 357 mag pistol 1963 vintage according to SN # S6234***. I'm not a pistol guy so if anyone has any info and value range of this pistol please advise .

What is the barrel length? 4" is 12(6) prohib and therefore smaller market & lower value.

6" models can push close to $1000 if original, mint and with box, though most sell for considerably less.

4" prohib models are in the $400 range.

They don't have the high polish , but good strong guns, heavy. As noted, barrel length will set the price, I think $ 1000.oo is too high, but a 6 " should fetch 800.oo for good condition. as new with box, than yes higher price.

Model 27's a pushing $1,000+ depending on condition. I'd put a decent 28 around 750 or so.....maybe 800 if it's really nice.

They also came with 4" barrels, actually the more common length, i believe. I have one i boight unfired some years back for $400. Still has less than 100 roinds through it. Mechanically as good as the vaunted 27, just not as pretty. - dan

4" Highway Patrolman was issue sidearm for Texas State Troopers (DPS) for years back in the day of the revolver.

the last two 28's I have purchased were 4" prohibs, both excellent condition, both $250.00 from two separate dealers.

I would suggest you ask you questions at the S&W Forum.

They have been very helpful in supplying information on a number of S&W revolvers for me, the last being a Pre-Model 27.

The S&W Highway Patrolman is the economical version of the Model 27.

My 1966 made Model 28.

Fantastic gun. I have a Model 27-3, which is the same gun but with a nicer finish.

They shoot great and last forever. It's an N-Frame, which is enough to handle 44 Magnum loads. Full power 357s are nothing in that frame.

As for value, a 6" used model 28 goes for $600 - $800 depending on condition. Don't pay more than $800.
