S&W introduces an AR

Now they can provide every police force with every weapon they could ever imagine needing. In true S&W style: underbid, underbid, underbid. I hear the new uniforms and shiny shoes will hit the market mid summer! And the new line of coffee cups for officers with desk jobs are slightly delayed.

Actually I'm curious to see one. I do like S&W but I think I'd wait a while to let any bugs work themselves out...

Why do they intend to recycle the same 50 year old design???

(hey I own an AR so don't flame me :)) Anyhow, why can't a US company make the gas piston style AR like the HK416? Get rid of the ####ty maintenance issues once and for all.

my 2 cents.

Actually everyone and their uncle down south are starting to build AR's now. Remington, Grenadier Precision, Stag, RRA, etc. why not someone else?

:D Don't forget the new M&P MAGNUM Bearclaws. I understand Tim Hortons will be subcontracting most of the parts, truly a coup for Canadian industries. For the health concious officer, they will be offering a MAGNUM bagel option, but I've heard there is a problem with the Loxing mechanism delaying release.

A friend of mine in Malaysia has been working on a design of an AR in 6.8 with a self-cleaning gas system.

So why has it been so hard for everyone to copy the FAL adjustable gas system, Christ, a teenager in metal work could do it.

I kind of thought S&W might come up with something more innovative.

I am curious if the mystery Glock long gun rumour will ever come to fruition...

Why? Because they can. Colt recently lost a court case regarding the M-4 pattern rifle, which the judge ruled was a common designation that Colt could not claim a trademark or utilitty patent for. Thus, the door is now very WIDE open for companies to go ahead and manufacture M4's. I bet S&W had this pretty ready to go, but was waiting for the court to rule so as to avoid a suit from Colt.

It's not a bad business move for S&W. Why be innovative when they're selling something that already sells by itself?

I'll stick with the more reputable AR manufacturers though, thanks.
