S&W M&P 15-22 Blown Extractor

S&w

I actually visited S&W today( we are here at 6-flags on vacation) The word form the gun -mech is. They want the rifles sent to the repair depot in Ontario. The reason being the "bolt maybe out of true" So I will be sending mine back. I did inform him my dispointment in the lack of support from the distributer of these rifles. I hope mine gets sorted out soon.

Too bad. We'll see how mine holds up. Hopefully long enough to have a little fun with it anyhow. Actually, I hope it holds up long enough for me to buy a CZ 858, then I won't mind so much when it's getting fixed! lol

Don't forget to let us know how you like the trigger-pull....

man do my ears hurt.. definitely wearing muffs next time i shoot this thing.

0.22's are still fairly loud, think I would wear the muffs regardless since you can go through hundreds of rounds in a session

true, especially handgun .22's i listen to loud music all the time 150+ db's (big car stereo addict) so listening to that gun shoot yesterday wasnt all that bad until my blowout.. thats changing now, muffs all the time.

Always wear hearing-protection :yingyang: , "even" when you're firing .22's.........

So this is a common problem with the gun? A submission from a Canadian on Firearmblog also had a similar problem

With this being an entirely new platform of rifle, the extractor turned out to be a weak point. Not many of the newer rifles are experiencing this issue and the reasons for it (from S&W as per the S&W forum), were an out of spec bolt in earlier versions, coupled with people not properly loading rounds into the magazine. The S&W M&P 15-22 has a proprietary "psudo-double stack" magazine, in which the rounds are held tightly in battery in an almost "X" formation. If rounds are not fully pushed back into the mag and stacked properly, this can cause and "out-of-battery" strike on the round, damaging the extractor.

I've only had my rifle out for a test run and it shot a couple mags flawlessly. If the extractor goes, my buddy at WSS said they'd probably give me a new rifle straight across. Not sure if I'd rather have S&W fix it, rather than just have it happen again.

Who knows, this is just what I've gleaned from reading up on the rifle. I still wanted it and I don't regret it a bit.

When i first got my Mp15-22 i took it out and coudln't even run one mag without having a failure of some sort. Fail to load, fail to fire. I can see why it OOB the bolt wouldnt always slide all the way forward. I decided to check out the smith and wesson fourm and found that the ammo i was using Rem thunderbolts were on the do not use list. So i swapped out to the higher end Rem Yellow Jackets. I had my doubts about them because they have a funny looking tip and i figured they might get hung up. Much to my suprise after a good cleaning i can blast clip after clip rapid shooting and not have a single ftf. fte anything. That being said,, when you get your Mp15-22 CLEAN IT, lube it and run some higher end ammo. These yellow jackets for me are flawless with this gun. I just did the 15 minute trigger job and got the trigger pull down to 4lbs. Im so happy with this gun words dont even describe it, and i used to have my doubts.

my extractor blew up around 250 rounds in. I sent it back, then waited my month and a half. When I took it out to the range for a second test, about 50 rounds in, it blew a case in half, and jammed it into my rifle...

I was firing during the first incident and my friend from the dutch forces was firing during the second. So I dont think this was an operator error.

I am done with this rifle and onto the colt now. More money, and no functioning bolt catch, but at least it wont blow up me or one of my friends.

make sure you wear protective gear and stay safe when test firing this firearm.

extractor blow out

hey NoChance, where did u take your rifle for warranty? I've had mine at Wortners in Chatham, and been waiting just over a month and haven't heard anything yet

So i went and bought 6 bricks of ammo and went to the range yesterday. Only manage to shoot off 1800 or so before my fingers told me thats quite enough reloading for one day. I only had maybe 3 FTE, not one FTF the whole day but on the last fail to eject i noticed the shell was half in and half out of the breech. That pushed the extracter back enough to come loose and fall out. Luckily i was inside a wooden shed type setup so the spring and parts were just a needle in a haystack of shells to find but i did it. Put it back together and it works just fine. I was so pissed off thinking it was going to have to get sent off for warrenty.

I understand that the newer revision model we're selling, indicated by the blue springs, have resolved the problem on the initial models? True? Mine is working well. Anyone else have the 'blue spring' model?

Smith Wesson M&P 22 extractor blow out

My Smith Wesson M&P 22 had an extractor blow out today after 250 rounds. Discharged before the bolt fully closed. Nobody lost an eye but my extractor has been lost in the snow.
Anybody know a contact at S&W for parts?
I sent an email to S&W today, waiting to hear back.

Repair

I just got mine back form the repair depot. I sent it to M D Charlton In BC They sent it off to S&W in the US It took almost 5 months to get it back.

I got a whole brand new upper. I was at S&W last summer. The tech was telling me the first batches of bolt faces were milled out of true by about .001 enough to slow the rnd down and cause the OBD. True or not who knows

S&W fixed my rifle and I am happy with that ;) Shoots great :) M D Charlton are waiting on there 10rnd mags to :)

There was no cost as S%W paid for shipping and all assiated fees
