I'm looking at a new S&W M&P 15 AR.

I am on the verge of buying it, about $1600 after taxes.....

This will be my first AR.

Any reason I shouldn't?

Any other options under $1600 taxes in?

Don't worry about upgrades and what not...... I'll figure that stuff out as I go!

Cheers!

Stag is way better in my opion than S&W in the AR department. Also Walter from Arms East is all Aces in my book!

The one on the shelf has a flash hider of some sort, and it also comes with a fixed stock and an adjustable M4 style stock as well. The carry handle is removeable from the flat-top upper...... It has all the features I was looking for.......

I am sure that it would not be too much trouble for a competent g-smith to thread the barrel (if in fact it doesn't have a threaded barrel) so I could have any kind of barrel "bling" added or removed....

The stag arms offerings look like all that and a bag of chips..... but its a little hard to tell from the pictures... I suppose an AR is an AR, but I am sure there are differances....

Thanks for the input fellas, I guess I have a decision to make.

Cheers!

The M&P has a MPI bolt but not barrel. Only the Internaional models, that have A2 stocks, unthreaded muzzle, and a 1/9 17" HBAR barrel, are being imported.

I had one and they're very nice. Once you start adding stuff onto it it'll get longer and front-heavy fast.

Sold my upper and found a new soulmate for the lower. Can't miss with the Smith. :ar15:

Thanks for all the info guys.

I went down to the g-store after work and bought the M&P 15...

Quickest restriced transfer for me to date...... 35 min from the time I paid till I got the fax of the TATT.

Pics to follow after I have supper!

Cheers!

Well here it is (thanks again for all the input)

It came with a carry case, 5/10 mag, M4 buttstock and the rest is in the pics.

As was stated earlier in the thread, it doesn't have a threaded muzzle and it doesn't have a Flash hider, personally I think it looks a bit cleaner with a bare muzzle.

All in all I think it was a good buy, it was priced a bit lower than the Stags that Arms East is selling, add to that the fact that this was local...... it was kind of a no brainer :D

Unfortunaly there is supposed to be 30 to 40 kmh winds all weekend and they are forcasting 20 to 30 cm of snowfall so don't expect a Range report anytime soon!

Cheers!

It took less time to do the transfer than it took me to switch out the butstock!! (well, almost :D)

6 position adjustable, I'm happy...... Now if i could only figgure out a way to fire it off and avoid the snow! :D

Here are some pics with the adjustable stock installed.
