looking for some info on the S&W M&P22 how is the trigger on this gun? does it feel like the M&P9 models or is it totally different feel?
How is the size of the frame/slide compared to the M&P9? I'm asking this question for the reason of having to buy or use a second holster.

Any reasons for not buying the M&P22? can the trigger be changed to a better aftermarket trigger?

I just put deposit on 22. I held the 9 and the 22 side by side and they are damn near the same size. All forums I've been checking for holsters say one for a standard 9 will work for the 22, then you'll just need different mag holders

It feels very very close to the 4.25" M&P9/40 with the medium backstrap on it. The holsters are generally 100% compatible - IIRC the dustcover on the M&P22 is very slightly wider than the centerfire versions, so it will fit a bit tight. Not a real problem in any holster that I've heard, but it could theoretically be so. It's a bit lighter, too, but not as much as a difference as between the steel centerfire 1911s and aluminum rimfire 1911s (e.g. GSG).

The trigger feel and fire control are completely different. The centerfire versions are a Glockish striker-fired system, while the M&P22 is an internal-hammer single action system. Truthfully, the trigger on the M&P22 is way better than the trigger on the centerfire M&P. It has a very VERY short amount of creep and a clean and short reset. I think the M&P22 has a thumb safety precisely for this reason: Single action triggers have very little margin for error with so little takeup and creep.

It's a fine pistol. Best 22LR around, IMO, but slightly less-than-perfect as a trainer for my M&P9 because of the completely different trigger feel. But I don't believe that a better 22LR adaptation could have been made, unless they had found a way to integrate the changeable backstraps.

my holster will be kydex made so it might be different, I bought a Ruger 22/45 Lite and was thinking about getting a M&P9 CORE or VTAC only then change the trigger. If I go that route then I would also look at buying the M&P22.

I got rid of a lot of guns over the year and was only going to shoot bench rest 22LR. but the wife is interested in shooting handguns again. So I'm looking at going S&W - M&P I have never shot these models before so I have no idea if I'm getting into junk or not. they seem to have a good fallowing like Glock does. I was a long time 1911 fan but I also like that the Polymer guns don't rust. I don't mind the Glock these days but have never been a fan of the polymer triggers.

I had mine for 2 months max, then had to send it for repairs, that was a year ago and i still dont have it. Love my m&p 9 but i pity anyone that needs to send these .22's in for warranty as there are NO canadian dealers that can repair. Get ready to wait and be frustrated :)

If your holster is adjustable, then it should be fine. I have no issues fitting my M&P22 into the S&W range kit holster or my Raven Concealment holster (kydex, fairly tight fit).

The APEX trigger options for the M&P centerfire pistols are great. I think you'll find something satisfactory if you go that route. Still, none of those options are as nice as the trigger on the M&P22, simply by virtue of the hammer-fired vs. striker-fired systems.
