S&w m&p 9 2.0 accessories

If you intend to mount an optic on the gun you would be better off buying a 4.35" S&W Core as opposed to having someone mill the slide. Less money and the CORE model comes with co-witness sights. You are not going to want to put a scope on one of these pistols. It would be like putting lipstick on a pig. The M&P is a fine pistol but a target gun it is not.

It's a 4.25" 9mm otherwise I have no distinguisment. I'm sure it's the standard size m&p 2.0 with 10 round clip.
In terms of optics I'd like a holographic green dot

You might want to email Black Box Customs and see if they can set your gun up to accept an RMR. Be warned, the total package won’t be cheap!!

Any reason you want a green dot? It’s way cheaper to use the iron sights unless you want a holo sight for some specific purpose?

Only that I've used one before on a friend handgun. I'm really inquiring to search for accessory options. I am very novice to the sport. I apologize for my lack of research and experience. Networking is almost essential in discovering sources.

No worries! We all have to start somewhere.

Like Canuck 44 and I said, customizing your gun to accept an optic can end up costing more than its worth. Unless you can find one that can dovetail into the rear sight mount. I can’t think of any off the top of my head but others may be able to help. What I think is you need to mill out the top of your slide to accept the holo sight of your choice. I would highly recommend a good brand like the Trijicon RMR or Leupold Delta Point, C-More or a SIG Romeo. I would also recommend a competent gunsmith to do the job, like Black Box Customs or TAC Ord.

You may also need suppressor height iron sights to clear the optic as back ups. All this will cost money and a lot!

Personally, if you are a new handgun shooter, I would buy ammo and practice lots with the stock gun. You may end up loving it that way anyways. And end up saving about $1200.

If you are dead set on putting a red dot on the gun go with a dovetail mount (I recommend Springer Precision out of the US) . His prices are fair, his product is top notch and he ships to Canada. This would be cheaper than having your slide milled by a lot but not much cheaper than just buying a CORE model all set up for you. The CORE comes with the slide cut for optics and has co-witness sights. I found the dovetail mount higher than using iron sights and it takes a bit of an adjustment in your pistol presentation to get used to the higher sight picture when you use a dovetail mount.

Your money so you can assess the two options. BTW take a hard look at the Burris 111 and the Vortex Viper sights. They are both excellent sights and will last you a lifetime.

Still Alive ends his post with some very good advice.

Ok I love my FO sights. For tan targets green seems to be the favourite colour I see at matches.

There is an alternative that I fell into though. If you do settle on a model of the S&W M&P (CORE if you really want an Optic) here is something to consider before you make up your mind on where to spend your dollars. Go to a hobby shop and pick up a small bottle of red fluorescent model paint. Take a toothpick and dab the end in the paint and then tap the toothpick on the white dot on the front sight your gun came with. You will find the paint on the toothpick will drop nicely into the concave of the front sight. Make sure the face of the front sight is clean and free of oil.

With a bottle of Black model paint, paint out the two white dots on your front sight.

Go to the range and see how you like the sight picture. Frankly, I could have saved myself a bunch of money by doing this before I chased down FO sights. I am no saying FO isn't worth while but I am saying the drop of red paint on the front sight is quite a nice sight. The dot really does jump out at you. Try it you may like it and if you don't nothing ventured but a few dollars in paint. If you go optic you will be chasing the dot and won't use the notch and post sights anyway. If you don't go Optic and I would recommend you don't initially, then give the red paint a try. You might be surprised. I was.
