Saw one in at the local shop this last weekend and was really taken with it. I am currently a Glocker and while I love my 17 like no other.....I have this secret desire to get the M&P.

Anyone got one? Would like any personal comments, reports, reviews on the whole package.

Thanks

wow...i was told it would be awhile for the 9mm to be available.

I like the M&P...gadget and i fired over 800 in a few hours to test it. The trigger will take some time to get used too but overall the fit is great!

I also hated the slide release and mag disconnect.

Was looking at it at TSE this week. Nice piece for sure:D . Nice to have the various sizes of grips thru insets. Time will tell as far as accuracy and durability are concerned tho. Still a bit early. I am sure the steel demons will have to jump in and condemn it but they're probably still driving their Corvairs and Edsels too..DOH!:p
Cheers
dB:)

I fired someone's M&P in .40S&W three weekends ago. It was very easy shooting; I thought I was shooting 9mm until I saw the box of NEW 180gr .40S&W. In fact I wonder if it is undersprung because the pistol itself is also very light.

I enjoyed it, it felt good. I too was considering it, but the one "turn off" for me is the "pin" in the frame which requires a machine press to remove if you ever want to strip it down completely (or so I've read) = No purchase for me.

The mags looked good (same as my Steyr mags - Mec-Gar?)

the ones we tested are like mecgar mags...

how are the ones you've seen?

The ones that I saw had normal capacity magazines that had been blocked by what looked like heating up with a welding torch and then hammering a dimple in to the side of the magazine body with a big punch. The finish of the magazine was all burnt up and they could not be disassembled for cleaning.

Few weeks ago I saw an article/ review of the M&P40 in of the gun magazines (didn't catch the name) they compared it to a Glock 22.

There were pisc of groups shot with both guns and Glock had a bit tighter group. IIRC they said it has something to do with longer trigger reset on the M&P...

I've got a .40S&W 4.25" barrelled M&P, nice gun, light, but a tad heavier than a Glock 22. The trigger definately take some time to get used too, travel is quite short, but requires alot of force to fire, maybe because I only fired 50 rounds through the gun yet, so it's not broken in.

Magazine safety is a real annoying thing, period.

Slide release is almost impossible to operate, too 'recessed' into the frame. Magazines (OEM) are high polish blued, which is bizzare for a Military or Police application gun, I'd have expected flat black plastic magazines.

Novak sights and 'fish scale' slide serrations are a nice touch on a stock gun, and interchangeable backstraps is a nice addition, ensures that the gun will fit any hands. IMO, the large backstrap is by FAR the most comfortable, more rounded, larger rubberised surface. The long 'beavertail' is a nice extra safety feature to avoid slide pinching, but it does not look very good if you ask me.

The gun is a real joke to disassemble for a striker fired gun, 5 seconds and it's done. Same for reassembly.

i was talking to a S&W shooter and he said you can get the m&p without the mag safety. S&W has a plastic part that you can use to disable it, he actually manufactered a few for his guns. The slide release is designed like that to have consistent drills. Fact, this is a gun geared towards LEO and will be hard to get going for IPSC or IDPA.

there are two types of slide lock levers available. I've seen both. One is recessed, almost flush, the other sticks out more and has more material to it.
The "island" mags in the BC guns were not done on the island as originally thought, but were done at the request of the importer, that way specifically, even though those doing the work wanted to do it a different way.
they are also available without the mag disconnect, so if you removed that from your gun, who would know? it came that way right?
The take down lever inside the mag well is the height of stupidity though. It makes taking the gun apart in the field difficult and time consuming, as you hunt for something to stick inside the gun and flip the lever.
Beyond that I liked the gun, and will probably own one, one day. Much nicer to grip than a Glock.

I fondled one at Hunter's...to me, the trigger felt kinda heavy and looked like it would break if you looked at it sideways. And the styling...well, Batman might like it.:p I will give a more fair evaluation as soon as I have the chance to fire someones, cuz I ain't gonna buy one.;)
