I have received inquiries in the past regarding S&W M&P pistols without internal locks and mag disconnect safeties.

Is there still a demand for these guns? Are they commonly available right now or is mostly the ones with locks? How many people care about with or without locks/safeties?

They are available to import if there is demand.

The M&P9JG is another one that doesn't have a magazine disconnector.

But neither does it, nor any other 4 1/4" M&P model without a magazine disconnector, seem to be commonly available in Canada.

When you consider that the majority of M&P pistols in the world are sold without the magazine disconnect, but Canadians are restricted - by the importer - to the disconnect version only, one has to ask why?
Why would the importer do this? Why would S&W allow the importer to do this?

My chief reservation about the M&P is this unwanted "feature".

It's frustrating to have to explain to new shooters that they should not buy a widely available M&P (because of this issue) while being unable to direct them to an (in-Canada source of) M&P that they should buy.

I believe there is a market, and I believe that - given a choice - Canadians would prefer the non-magazine disconnect version, just as the rest of the world has.

Thanks for the replies. I have the pistols available to me. I'm just wondering if people in Canada want them or are you happy with the models currently available.

My first M&P has the mag. safety. I have not bothered to delete it, although I may. Not a difficult operation. Doing this is irrelevant for the shooting I do. My M&P Pro Series does not have the mag. safety, and I prefer this.
I think that you would not have any problems selling any M&Ps that you brought in.

I would not buy a gun that had a magazine safety, period. I would be interested in the M&P if available without this feature.

I can't see why anyone would want the magazine disconnect or internal lock given the choice.

m&p is a great gun i like them alot. mag safety never bothered me until i started ipsc. so with no mag safety would sell alot more than with. my 2 cents

I love my M&P but hate the mag safety. It just seems like something else that could break when you REALLY REALLY don't want it to. I just seems like such a flimsy little operation going on in the pistol when the mag is inserted and the sear disconnect moves over. Looks too fragile. For that reason, I also refuse to mess with it cause I figure there's a better chance of the gun working without messing with it, again, when I really really want it to work.

I'd be willing to trade my M&P9 for a version without the mag safety though :D but given I already have the pistol, I don't see myself buying another one. Too bad the non-mag safety version wasn't available earlier :(

When I bought my M&P 45, I ordered one with no mag safety and got it no problem. I told them point blank, if it has the mag safety I ain't taking it.
Might be interested in a .357 Sig model, for no other reason than ####s and giggles :D.

yeah but no safety means warning on the slide :(

I had one with a safety and didn't really care that it was there. I shoot with a mag in anyways ;)

I'd be looking at getting another one when Pro comes out with 4.25" model

My biggest objection to the model without the mag safety is the story written on the slide - "This firearm is capable of being fired with the magazine removed, therefore you should not let anyone who is borderline retarded use it, nor should youuse if if you can't be trusted with anything sharper than a Twinkie, or if you can't go out in public without adult supervision"... or words to that effect. I'm paraphrasing.

It's easy enough to deactivate the magazine safety and have a pistol with a clean, story-free slide...
