Hi, as you are one of the major S&W distributors in Canada, I was wondering if you also would be contact point for a warranty issue... My 40 cal has got some fairly major pitting going on, and I guess it was pretty common on the earlier batches. How do I go about getting the slide replaced under warranty in Canada? When I spoke to S&W USA they were ready to replace it, but when I said I was up north, they said best to contact a distributor to get details... Please let me know the process. Cheers!

But... they likely won't be checking here for some time, as is mentioned in their area. So if you expect an answer in a timely fashion, you need to call them.

My M&P40 was serviced at MD Charleton in Brentwood Bay BC (15km from Victoria).

The guys there are baby boomers, can't type, and have terrible breath but they know S&W products.

I sent mine to MD Charleton to have the barrel replaced and it sat there for about six months before they finally told me they had a falling out with there gunsmith and couldn't do it. It was also delayed due to something going on a the factory in the US. Some one tried to walk out the door with a few pistols and they shut down everything coming out of the factory. Not sure if that is true or not.

They recommended a place in Ontario and I had it back in about a week with a brand new barrel properly fitted. Now if I could only remember the name...give me a minute...

I assume it was Wortner's.

I believe MD Charleton and Wortner Gun Works are the only 2 S&W warranty centers.

Murray Charlton has left MD Charlton Co. He is still handling S&W warranty service through his new business, Murray Charlton Enterprises.

Just thought I would update the thread, and to be fair my report back here is about 2 weeks late.

North Sylva was very prompt to handle the situation. In fact, often responded to emails within hours! In the end the process was super smooth, and within about 2 weeks, the whole transaction was comlete and my M&P40 was wearing its new slide assembly.

Thanks for the excellent support and service Sylva. Look forward to ordering the M&P22 as soon as its available!

S&W is THEE worst company to deal with ever. Some times if you got bad service from ............lets say MD, it may be because they didnt have the part needed in stock and S&W's service definitly lacks something to be desired. It took me 9 months...................yes.................9 months to get a new trigger bar assembly for my M&P9. I too thought I was getting the run around from one of the S&W service centers. After waiting 3 months to get a trigger bar assembly from them, I went direct to S&W. 6 months later and at least 30 calls and several nasty e-mails, I finally got my part.
Its for this reason alone that I will never buy another S&W product again. They make some decent stuff, but god help you if you need to fix it

wow all of these bad comments......is this true?

I have 2 guns made by S&W and now I am worried if something happens to them I would go through the same experience like these guys. :( I hope someone from North Sylva will comment on all of this bad experiences.

How about SIG SAUER warranty service? I plan to get a pistol from them.

That was meant to be a joke right?

I'm still waiting for a spring and extractor for my M&P 15-22 that broke in AUGUST 2011. Isn't this almost March?

Maybe they are just waiting for supply from S&W?
I emailed Jeff at North Sylvia and his reply was quick and made out a work order for me right away. We are just waiting for S&W now.

You're at the mercy of the supplies of a US company. I've found that companies in the US have absolutely no idea what to do with Canadian customers and warranty claims. I have phoned and e-mailed Springfield Armory.
The e-mail never got answered, and the phone call was a "I'll find out and call you back" from a sweet sounding gal, but never received it.
The question was, "If I buy one of your guns and I'm in Canada, how does your lifetime warranty work?"

The cross border communication and parts availability is shoddy at best.
Sadly, when I buy a new gun in this country, I always assume that a big issue with it that needs warranty work is never going to happen, or is going to require waiting upwards of one year.

As far as the person who asked about Sig Sauer's warranty..let's just say don't hold your breath. :(

I'm also still waiting for an extractor replacement for my 15-22 it's been 4 months now waiting for this to be sent to me.

I'll give Jeff at North Sylva credit he is very responsive to emails etc...but this waiting is ridiculous. They are sending me a full replacement bolt assembly which is nice but I hope it gets here sooner rather than later.

If they aren't being supplied by S&W then they should communicate that to their customers. That isn't too much to ask.

Now my M&P .45 needed warranty work and a part. That was handled in 2 weeks, including shipping time. I can't remember exactly who it was but it wasn't North Sylva.

Could you please tell us or PM me that company?? I have 2 S&W guns and I could use this type of great information in the future just in case.

Most likely:

WORTNER GUN WORK INC.

433 QUEEN ST BOX 411

CHATHAM, ONTARIO CANADA N7M5K5

519-352-0924

That's what S&W e-mailed me. North Sylva or Wortner. It won't matter either way because the bottle neck is S&W.

I'm waiting for a frame tool (It broke when I tried to remove it for the first time) and a rear low mount Novak sight (It was marred when I received my new M&P9 Pro). Jeff from North Sylva placed an order immediately. Now I wait for S&W.
