Hey I'm looking at picking up a good 22lr pistol and was wondering what are some good guns to look for? I had the chance to put some rounds through the s&w m&p22 and I really liked it. Any feed back?

If you want a gun that's going to be as reliable as a .22 can get I would personally look at a dedicated .22 pistol like a buckmark, or a ruger mark III, those ones will be a lot less finicky on ammunition as any of those .22's that have a centerfire "skin" to them. The reliability of a .22 pistol is always based on the quality of the ammunition.

Heh MacLellan69, I just picked up a M&P22, its en route right now. I'll keep you posted on how it runs (ammo types it hates etc). Buddy of mine has a GSG 1911 22lr, and he seems to like it a lot as well. Tells me it eats everything he feeds it. Also I shot a GSG down in Edmonton and it ran fine. If I didn't get a decent deal on the M&P22 I would have gone with the GSG. But Ih8Sks makes a good point...I'll keep u posted on my M&P if u want buddy.
Ps you're from Sydney eh. Right on me too

I have limited experience with a SIG P226 Classic and like it a lot. I had a P229 also and it was a good pistol.

My experience the M&P 22 was just as reliable if not better than anything else like it, and I have owned almost all of the .22 pistols out there.

My only complaint would be the sights, and the toy like feel to it. Too much plastic and the rear sight is terrible.

That said, I am probaly picking up a new Ruger 22/45 Lite model soon enough.

You definitely can't go wrong with the M&P22. I've owned mine now for over a year and love it. However, having said that, I must confess that I've had the pleasure of shooting the S&W 41. Now that is one heck of a terrific firearm. It's not cheap but well made and an excellent target pistol.

I love my S&W22, but with my small hands, I favor my Browning 1911-22 the most. I also find it the more accurate of the two.

I enjoy my 22/45 Lite as well. it's more accurate than the Browning, but I stopped shooting because the front site came loose and I haven't set it yet. no blue loctite.

I have the Mark III Target as well, 5" barrel in SS. weighs a ton and leaded up so quickly that I haven't shot it again. bit lazy and haven't cleaned the lead out yet. :p

It all depends on what you want. I really like the Ruger MKII heavy barrel target model...I think it's the best of all the Ruger standard autos, but maybe that's just because it's the one I won. The M&P22 is pretty nice too, but I wouldn't depend on it to go 100's of thousands of rounds like the Rugers. [Yeah, the Rugers need a bit of cleaning, depending on the ammo you use...]
