So I got the M&P40 PRO last week.

When I got it home, I gave my buddy a call, because he wanted to check it out, as his RPAL is being processed, and he's looking to get one himself.

Anyways- long story short, because of my buddy's stupidity, I no longer have the owners manual and I kinda need it, as I need to change out the backstrap.

So my question is: how do you change out the M&P40 backstraps?

My critical thinking skills go to crap when I'm stressed out about something, haha.

FYI - I'm pretty sure the manual says you can just twist the takedown tool out of the grip easily, but mine never came out that easy. Had to use plyers, which definitely marked up the plastic a bit, so if yours doesn't pop right out it's not abnormal but you might want to put something soft between the gun and any tool you decide to use...

Will do. Thanks.

Yes, that little piece is sure a pain to get out sometimes. Also, GET YOUR MANUAL BACK FROM THAT TOOL FRIEND OF YOURS, or did he spill his beer on it or something. Geez Louise.

I can't wait to get my M&P 40 geez i bought it last tuesday and it's my first restricted so i have the LTATT application as well as the transfer time... the suspense is killing me.

Seems like its storytime- can't sleep anyways, so why not.

So this buddy came over, and we proceeded to open the case. Then the phone rang. I went and got it, and told him that he could go ahead and open it. (I trust him- he has a PAL, and getting his RPAL- plus I didn't (and still don't) have any 40 S&W in the house.)

I come back, and the gun is out of the case, with everything all over the place, and said buddy is now ripping open the package to my Blackhawk holster I got for it.

Anyways, just yesterday, as I was handling the M&P40, I found the grip kinda thick, so I figured, "I'll change out the backstrap."

So I get out the case, and the backstraps, and since I don't know how to do it, I figure I'll get the instructions.

I CAN'T FIND THEM.

So I call up my buddy and asked him if he had seen the instruction manual. He told me that he figured I didn't need it and threw it out.

:runaway::bangHead:
Yup- my buddy, the idiot.

Brownell's sells the takedown tool for $5.99 if you want to replace it.

I am in between a M&P 40 and a Glock 21. I figure I might as well get one plastic gun, and everyone raves about glocks, but the M&P seems a little more my style..

glock if you want something blocky and uncomfortable and ugly, M&P if you want an ergonomic high quality pistol.

ps both are excellent shooters and highly reliable, it just comes down to egros and aesthetics really

Even easier, you can go on Youtube. You'll find numerous video on how to change your grip, and how to clean your pistol.

Adjustable wrench (mine is hard to turn as well).

The Glock 21 is a very large pistol, with a very long trigger reach - the M&P 40 (and, to compare apples to apples) M&P45 are much more "user friendly" even if the user doesn't have enormous hands. For a double stack 45 auto, the M&P45 is amazing.

If it bugs you, you can always switch the release to the other side and operate it with your trigger finger -it's very fast, but it makes it frustrating to shoot guns with a release on the other side.
