S&W M&P9 question.

Thanks for all the responses. Glad to know at least I am not alone in this issue. I am not convinced it was a "designed" feature, but it seems to work. I only say this, because it is not mentioned or listed in the manual. If it was designed to do this, I would have thought they would mention it. Also as I said, it did not do it on my first 2 range visits (289 rounds). Happy shooting all!

Yup, mine as well, but I can't get my damn mag release to work if I am in slide lock. The hardest friggen slide release ever. I have to pull the slide back to ease off the tension before the slide release will move. Even tried it with two thumbs. Power rack if the mag slam doesnt work!!

Took my range kit out for first time today...anyone else notice that the mag is difficult to load into the gun....i had to give it a really good slam to get the mag to stay in...thoughts?

How many rounds are you putting in the mags? M&Ps are a little fickle that way.

Hard to get 10 rounds in the mag in the first place and even harder to seat the loaded 10 round mags on a closed action.

The best solution to fix everything that's wrong with a S&W M&P is to buy a Walther PPQ M2.

Where did you find your M2? I didn't think there were any in the country yet! I also wish they had found a way to make the M2 compatible with M1 magazines. I hate the idea of having to get rid of all of my M1 mags...

I had to go through IRunGuns, and I got the last one that was already in Canada: http://www.irunguns.ca/store/handguns-for-sale/Walther PPQ M2 Navy SD 9mm 4.6" BBL

Don't get me wrong, I'm not a S&W hater by any means, I was just poking fun. In fact, I was very close to buying one because of how well they fit. I was previously a Glock guy, but I went to Epps with my wife and had them bring out every "black" 9mm they had. The M&P was leading based on the criteria we were looking for, but then they said "What about Walther?". I hadn't thought about them earlier, but gave it a shot. Even though the P99 was overly complex (like the H&K), we loved the quality and feel of it, but hated the paddle mag release. So I came home to research the PPQ M2 vs M&P, and it was no contest. The Walther was being reviewed by practically everyone as having the best trigger in the category and the M&P's was the worst. I eventually found one on the link above.

Mine must be the anomaly. I have a revision "N" purchased new in 2006 or 07, I cant remember exactly. But I have tried and tried to get my M&P9 to do this and it simply wont. I have 6000 or so rounds through it, not a ton I know but it is certainly broken in. Weird that mine won't do it.

When this first started popping up on the M&P forum I went out tried to do it, never could. The only thing I can think of is that I don't use my slide release ever. If I do its when I'm disassembling the gun so I relieve the pressure on the stop by pulling the slide back and then ride the slide forward with my hand on it. So maybe my slide stop is just not worn in enough to do it.

I don't consider this an issue. I consider it a feature. I have the M&P9L Pro CORE and it does it as long as I forcefully insert the mag. This is actually pretty damn handy for fast reloads when competing. Many guns do this. My CZ-75 does it as well. Many Glocks will do it too.

This is a well known issue. There are many YouTube vids on a very easy fix. You will need to cut down the follower, to allow easier 10 round insertion, as well as making it easier to seat the full mag on a closed slide. If the slide is open, magazine seats with near zero force. Only an issue on closed action. I have done this to 5 of my mags, and makes a big difference.

ive got a 9, 40, 45, 22 and a 9 PRO CORE and they all do this, on every mag.
i just always assumed they where suppose to since they all do, or at least all the ones ive ever seen do it.

You guys got me wondering about my M&P9 Pro?

Ya, it will do it, but man,you have to give the mag a good slap to do it consistently..

My mags seat with a audible click without beating on them?

I think I've bruised my palm now:(

Hey guys, anybody having the opposite problem? I just picked up a new M&P9mm range kit. I have not taken it to the range yet, but have tried using it with snap caps at home. With the mag inserted, the slide release button does not work on it's own. I have to pull the slide back a little bit back, before the slide release button will work.

With my Sig P226, just pressing the slide release button will automatically bring the slide forward. I also tried a M&P9 (possibly older model) at the range and it worked at the range without having to manually pull back on the slide a bit. Is this normal?
