In cleaning up my S&W M66 for the season, I found that if I tightened up the sideplate screw that retains the cylinder yoke, it became stiff to open the gun.

Should I take a bit off the tip of the screw to relieve this? I believe that I have the right scrww in the right place.

You should not have to do anything to that screw. More likely that you mixed up the sideplate screws.

They are different sizes and the wrong ( longer ) one puts to much pressure on the yoke.
How do I know ?? Done it myself.

you may also have carbon/debris build up in there which could be causing the binding. Double check for crud, then lube the yoke.

x2. Most common mistake made by us S&W owners.

M66 sideplate screws

Thank you, gentlemen!

I pulled the screws and laid them on the bench. Eye balling them, there was no difference.
However the digital calipre said something else. Now all is well with my little pet.

Thanks again.
