S&W manufacture date

Dave need more than just the serial # it could be an 44 Triple lock or 1926 hand ejector or a modern type like a model 24(1950 target), please include a better detail or pictures and full serial# including any letters, Dale in T-Bay
 
Dave the S&W model 44DA in 44 Russian model No3 Russian 1st model was manufactured between 1871 and 1874, they were serial numbered 1 to 20000 with 8" barrell standard with 6" and 7" also produced.There is a confusion on serial numbers as they were made in differrent batches, but here is the break down of Model 3 production:
First Transitional,Second American, First model commercial Russian guns 32,800 guns
Russian contract guns 131,138 guns
Second Model,Commercial Russian, Turkish Model, Japanese Model guns is 6,200 guns
You really need to send for a Factory Letter from S&W historian Roy Jinks. Go to S&W webpage and all contact info and proper way about getting your letter is there, I think it is $50 or $60 US per letter and well worth the investment as if your gun is still in original configuration it is worth from $500 to $12000 depending on condition and specific model. Dale, the information you gave above applies to the Third Model in general, but not to the DA specifically. I believe that first S&W DA did not come out until 1881. Some DA's are classified as antique and some are not. I cannot recall the cuttoff serial number.
 
The S&W DA frist model the dec 31st 1897 cut off for that model is about #52500
all the lower serial numbered ones are perscribed antiques if there 44 russian.
Some call them the Navy frist model number 3 russian frist model I have goten lotsa diffrent names on that DA model S&W from CFC over the years of getting letters.

my roy jinks S &W letter calls em a double action frist model itwas frist introduced in 1881 and sold untill 1913
but the cut off of 52500 is the Canadian cut off as there was 54668 made total they are all considered antique in the USA. we have a year less cut off which i think should be changed.
why is it we have to do everything like golly old england.

YOU ARE CORRECT SIR:) I missed the Da for some reason, still a very desirable gun thats worthy of an S&W factory letter!

S&W DA 44 Rusian manufactured between 1881-1913 and available with 4",5",6" or 6-1/2" barrels, available in blue or nickle, target or service sights, red or black hard rubber grips on round frames, ribbed barrell, serial numbered 1 to 54668 with 53590 manufactured in this configuration. If cylinder is 1-9/16" it must be serial numbered after serial #15340, values go from $300-$6500, just an note of interest JOHN WESLEY HARDIN owned serial number 352, take care Dale:)
