Hope some of the revolver guru's may be able to help me out on this one. I just (yesterday) picked up a nice S+W Mod 27-2 and I'm looking for a source to date the revolver by s/n - anyone know of such a source ? If this intel is only found in some S+W bible and one of you wants to have a quick look, the s/n is N340### - just a date range is great.

Gotta say, I have coveted one of these for a while and now, having aquired one, I think my Ruger GP 100 may be put out to pasture :)

Cheers,

Bob.

Sevoman - thanks for looking this up and giving me the answer - cheers mate.

Digital - thank for not outbidding :) Hope you enjoy the Browning as much as I think I will the Smith.

Now I guess I will have to look for a Dirty Harry Model 29 to match eh :)

I have 2 of the model 27's and 1 model 28 and they are excellent with the pinned barrel and recessed cylinders. With 148 gn wadcutter .38 spl shooting bullseye they are scary accurate.

Early Model 29's are my weakness and I have a complete set of all barrel lengths and finishes available, just missing a 29-1 version which are hard to find and it will be complete.

After the Dirty Harry craze was over S&W streamlined the barrel offerings and brought out 6" version model 29 instead of the standard 6 1/2" barrel. Lots of 6" versions around and they usually go for $500 and up. Finding a 6 1/2" model 29-2 in good condition is getting harder and they go quickly on the EE board, usually $650 and up.

A great read is here on the model 29, http://www.sixguns.com/range/SmithWesson44Mag.htm
