I've just purchased a mid second year production ( ser# under 19k) mod 41 with the 7 5/8 barrel and the compensator. I've heard that the compensator models can be less accurate than the ones without. Any truth to the rumor? This gun will make 2 that I have so the 1969 6 inch without the compensator will probably go if there are no issues with accuracy. Thanks for your opinions. Dave

You need two.
But on my Hi-Standards the Olympic has a comp, but that is a rapid fire gun, I have two supermatics same barrel length, one has comp, one with out, I think the one with out is a bit better, but really to tell , I have to shoot off a bench rest. On the 103 series , I manufactured a gizmo to do that, the ones that you can take off, most people took them off for that reason.
Shoot them both with good match ammo and see what you like, The comps are a pain to clean, they will build up with lead and crap.
As these are all used guns, care over the years could have something to do with it as well, Had a Colt Match target, looked like new, barrel totally leaded up. I have never figured out how a 22 barrel can lead up like that, But I digress again.

Mine doesn’t care, very accurate either way, comp or not. However as mention, leading up is a pita, however nothing a dental pick doesn’t solve.
