Is this revolver safe to shoot with .38 Special Plus "P" ammo? My Blue Book states that "all currently manufactured S&W revolvers chambered for 38 Special cal. will also accept Plus "P" rated ammo. They don't explain how "current" ... current is! TKS. Dave

All the Model 10's will not the Pre-Models before 1957 they don't recommend it on the older ones because of the metals they were using back then they werent as good as they are today.

.... The RCMP, withdrew ALL except the very highest numbered, and even those had a Caution attached, Model 10's with a "C" Series prefix in the serial number, when the +P ammunition was issued. .... So, if your's has a "D" Prefix to the serial number, it's OK for +P .... David K

... I really don't recall the numerical cut-off in the "C" series, but to err on the side of caution, I would probably not shoot +P in it. Unless it's for a self defense type use( Police use for example) there's really no advantage in using the +P. More noise, flash and bang, and certainly MORE recoil ! ..... David K

Any 10-5 should be fine with +P.

S&W says that any model-numbered gun is OK for +P ammo. They most likely chose this as an easy to remember cutoff point. Any post-WWII gun made prior to the introduction of model numbers in 1957 should also be OK, as they are essentially the same.
