Hello gentlemen
I get on offer for S & W model 14-3 with 8-3/4 " barrel in pristine condition -$1200.00 and same model with 6' barrel -$800.00
What is decent price for this model ?
I know it is hard to find this model in great condition .
Thank you in advance

Hi
It is not hard to find this model they are sold on the EE all the time. My thoughts on this matter is that the guns you are talking about are way over priced. At least the model with the 8 3/8 barrel is anyway. I bought mine that is in mint condition for $600.00. I guess it just matters how bad you want them.

The extra long barrel for a model 14, 38special is problematic. While the 38special cartridge is a very good one, there is really NO advantage of having the long barrel. Even a 5" barrel would be just as accurate at 25 yards. You might be able to "soup up" the 38 load, but what's the point? Its not a 357mag.
Cannot use it for PPC, and most indoor courses of fire require a 6" barrel maximum. From my point of view, the longer barrel is a disadvantage. I would have to have the barrel cut to 5 or 6". The gun is worth $425.00. So far away from 800.00...

Both those prices are way to high.I recently sold a very pristine 14-3 for $550 which I think is a fair price. If it comes with original box and papers, perhaps add another $100.

They are classic revolvers but are not rare at all, wait around for a better priced one if you want one.And yes,the classic "K38"comes with a 6 inch barrel and was made to shoot light target loads,it would be a pity to cut down a barrel such as this and if you want to "soup it up",get a 357 instead.

Ignore Hatman1793. He's a grinder and his prices are always too low (in joke, he's a shooting buddy  Hi Al). These are fine guns and usually very accurate but typically they sell in the $500-$600 range. Anything above that is overpriced.
