Ok is there a factory barrel that is 5'' or 6'' that is not one of the thin ones but more like the barrel on the S&W 686 with the full underlug for the model 15

You mean like this?

Had it for awhile, bought it off EE as is, but sold it to another CGN'er. Not sure who did the work on this one. But it shot okay.

If you can find a 6" barrel off a S&W K frame Model 14, older model, they are not full underlug, but would work well with a Model 15 frame. Later/newer Model 14's had full underlug barrels but I'm not sure you can get just the barrels on those.

I would advise trying to find a later Model 14 with the lugged barrel.

There are only minor differences between a Model 14 and 15. Generally speaking:

-4" tapered barrel and ramped front sight: Model 15
-6" heavy or lugged barrel and Patridge front sight: Model 14
-Rare exceptions include 4" Model 14s with heavy barrels and 6" heavy barrel Model 15s
