S&W Model 17 Barrel Question

Was this .22 ever offered in a barrel length other than 6"? I know about the 4" model 18, but that's not an option for me (lousy minimum length laws).

According to the Standard Catalog of Smith and Wesson there were also 36 Model 17 revolvers manufactured with 7 1/2 " barrels, one of them would be a nice find.

I don't know of any 5" 17's, but S&W has built all sorts of odd barrel lengths at one time or another. The other alternatives (you'll need to be lucky), is they have had K frame guns with a nominal 4" bbl that in actual measurement were over the 105mm show up in the past. Also, now that S&W has deemed the California market worth pursuing (like Ruger), they should start producing guns with 4 1/4" bbls. soon. FWIW - dan

Or I could have a 6" cut down to the same. Bit of a hassle, but its as close as I'll get.
