Just bought a K38 and a K22 that seem in quite good shape from the EE. I paid 1600$ for the pair. Should receive them in a few days or weeks depending on CFO's pace.

*Update* I took out my S&W 17 out to a steel match today and did well. I've changed out the stock grips for some Hogue grips. I also have a Safariland leather holster inbound. In practice I found the stock grips feeling a little small in my hands. I still would like to find some really nice wood grips at a latter date. It looks like I have been bitten by the revolver bug, I have my third revolver (a S&W 14-2) being delivered tomorrow. Thanks to weimajack.
 
Thanks for the info geologist. I like your snub noses. I was cheated out of prohibited class by the Liberals because I was between purchases when they changed the laws. :mad:

I got close to this, I have a 14-2 and a 617 10 shot, two of my 3 favorite guns.

Slightly different angle, bottom picture has flash. Are the 8.5" barrel versions a bit of a rarity?
 
Not really, I don't think, but I see 10 6 inch for every long one, I don't usally shoot long ones as, my eyes work better with 4 in, my tuned 4 in 19-2 is what I shoot most of the time.
I collected Hi Standards for years so shoot them lots, never collected smiths, but deal lots of them, have never checked #'s on different lengths.
 
The model 17 bigger brother (calibre) arrived yesterday. A model 14-2 in really nice shape and without the 'hole' in the side of the frame.

There is a dot of what looks like red paint on the rib. As if it was the pistol was 'marked' for a reason. Powder solvent didn't fade it but I don't want to aggressively try to remove it. It doesn't really bother me but I'm curious about any purpose. Or was it a woops, lol.

Good Catch....that is weird!

I think it is a mirror image of the right hand side photo. Back in the days of film I'd say they flipped the negative. S&W's don't have those markings on the left side....or the screw to remove the cylinder

Just the opposite for me. I sold off my one & only revolver about 25 years ago and purchased the first of three since last September.

Another update.

I changed out the springs on my model 17. I installed a #13 rebound spring and a reduced power hammer spring (Wolff). I experienced way too many light strikes so I had to put the factory hammer spring back in for a steel match. Second attempt, I removed the factory hammer spring and replaced with a standard power (ribbed Wolff) spring. A range trip today and I still had the occasional light strike but I took only one brand of ammo (Aguila) with me :redface:. On Sunday I'll be back to try out some CCI and Federal target ammo and see how it goes. Guns are fun.

All the PPC revolver guys use only Federal primers and the lightest springs. Their guns won’t shoot with any other primers. If your serious about lightening your trigger pull to the max you’ll need to commit to Federal ammo.
