Anyone know if the factory actually sent Highway Patrol's out with target stocks, hammer and trigger? I recently picked up this one with "S" prefix and the 3T's. It looks like the bits have been together since birth...

Very nice!

Now that's how a Highway Patrolman should look!

I might be way off base here but I was always lead to believe the three T's stood for target hammer, target trigger and target front sight as in patridge style. Fore sure you could have ordered the gun with target stocks, hammer and trigger if you wanted it that way.

So 4" barrel? Those the same as Border Patrol?
Opps looks like that would be model 66.
Dang don't know exactly what my uncle has, border patrol Smiths or Colts. Your picture makes me want to buy his pair for my kids when they grow up.

3 t was target hammer, target trigger (wide serrated) and 3rd t was target stocks which this gun has. Model 28 (Highway Patrolman) usually came with magna style stock.

While they usually did, some were delivered with the 3T configuration. S&W used to put out lots of odd combinations, and as the 28 was the poor man's 27, some folks preferred them with the wide hammer and trigger and target stocks, to be as much like a 27 as possible. I have a 4" that has all of the above, and another that came with target stocks but narrow trigger and hammer. I like them, nice honest N frame, easy to shoot and they smooth out well with age. Not as shiney as my 27's, but they didn't cost as much either. - dan

Thanks for the excelent feedback, all! The serial number is a few shy of S267000. I was able to find a pic on the interweb with a factory sheet underneath containing price for target grip upgrade.
