If it wasn't such a pain you could ship it to S&W in the states and they would fix it for nothing. I have friends down there that have done just that and the turn around time is 2 weeks or less.

usually a replacement hand will be more or less a blank that has to be formed and fitted to the gun... lots of fiddling, but if you want to try it cant really hurt.... but it would save some time to send it in.
