My bud has offered his 10" barrelled 29-3 in 44magnum, to me to purchase. I was wondering what a fair price would be.

It is the Dirty Harry gun, including a leather shoulder holster, and the condition is pretty good. Bluing is worn on both sides of the barrel for about 3-4", and a strong cylinder drag line.

Bluing otherwise is about 85-90%, some small blemishes, not quite rust.
Grips are in pretty good shape, though not much of the finish remains. One tiny chip near the trigger guard on one half.

I have no idea what the value would be, but it is definitely a shooter, not a safe queen.

Thanks for your consideration.

I saw a 29-2 with 8 3/8" barrel in very good-excellent condition at Ellwood Epps last month, IIRC it was $579. When I emailed about it it was already sold. :(

Thanks. He was asking $700 with the holster, I thought it a little high. I didn't know how many were around. It has a bit of use, and carry wear on it. I like my stuff nice.

I recently bought a model 29-2 in excellent condition for $700.The 29-2 are a bit more sought after as they are 'pinned and recessed' and the finishes are better than the 29-3's,and from the condition you described,it sounds that the gun has been used abit,so I would say that $500 with the holster would be closer to the mark. You also want to check on the older model 29's that may have shot a few magnum rounds that the timing etc is still ok.Cylinder drag lines on a smith are common and nothing to worry about.

As an aside, the 'Dirty Harry Gun"was a 6.5 inch 29-2,although I have read that in the movie the also used a model 57 and model 25 as model 29's were often really hard to come by in the early 70's
