What’s the word ?

I know the model 29 is a classic, and a favourite of inspector Harry Calahan’s fans.

On the flip side, the 629 looks awesome. Full under lug, barrel weights, tuned trigger and an overall better handling (in my hands at least)

What are your opinions ? Price not being a factor.

Which do you prefer? Stainless or blued? Half or full underlug? It sounds like you like the 629 more, so I'd say pick that.

I like the older Model 29. Own two, a 6 1/2" and the other a 4". . The stainless 629 is a good gun and an excellent choice for wilderness carry.

Firing 44 Special loads or reduced 44 mag case loads make this a fun gun to shoot. It can be incredibly accurate too.
And dont get caught up in that heavy bullet mantra: 240grain, 255 grain etc. 44 caliber revolvers do very well with light bullets like 180grain FWC's, 200grain cast lead bullets and the like.

As long as the particular sample was put together properly (good qa/qc) either will be great depending on what you want wrt features, design, barrel length, vintage... Some performance centre models got a little more attention (unique limited design, trigger work, accuracy tested etc) so they naturally cost more. Newer models are designed to handle a steadier diet of factory magnums but older ones stand up just fine with moderate factory magnum volumes or high volumes of lighter "special-ish" loads.
