If you were in the market for an accurate ,reliable rimfire pistol, which would you buy?I am not interested in target competition, but I do want an accurate gun.

If those are the two choices you narrowed yourself down to, you can't go wrong with the S&W 41, if you can find one.

I know bullseye shooters that still lament selling their 41 to upgrade to higher end guns.

I like the accuracy and the very good reputation of the model 41,but I also like the styling and the reviews of the Kimber.I have contacted both Smith & Wesson and Kimber dealers for price and availability. It has been a while since I owned a handgun, but I am seriously thinking of getting back into handgun shooting.

Smith 41's are very particular about what ammo they'll both shoot well and cycle the action. No two of 'em are alike either. You'll have to try a box of as many brands as you can to find the ammo the pistol likes. The price of said ammo means nothing. Mine only likes Remington Target and IVI Standard velocity ammo.
There are lots of aftermarket grips available for them. Not as inexpensive as they used to be though.
A new one runs over a grand, if you can find one. Epp's recently sold a used one with the 7" barrel(can't use that for formal target shooting though) for $629. Mags run $20 to $30US. Can't find any on a Canadian site.
The Kimber Rimfire Super is their .45 chambered in .22 LR. Shooter's Choice in Waterloo lists them at $1150. $810 for the non-Super. $26.95 for a mag.

If you like the 1911 style gun, call Sean Hansen at Freedom Ventures. I believe STI are marketing the Marvel kits. You be the judge, but I think the Marvel kit has a lot of potential.

From the Kimber site:

Each Rimfire Super is guaranteed to have fired a five shot, 25-yard group measuring 1.5-inches or less, and the actual test target is packed with every pistol.

No offense, but 1.5 inches at 25 yards for five shots with a .22 is well, bad.

Unless you're completely in love with the looks of the Kimber (and it is pretty), get a Model 41.

On the other hand, I sold a Browning Challenger and replaced it with a 41.

Really, really regretted it.

The Smith was not built well altho was still accurate. Slide was rattly and it wouldn't eject an unfired round. Didn't like it at all.

I now have another Browning and am happy.

That is the guarantee, but the guns can be much more accurate than that. The gun below did 1/2" with it's favorite load.

However if it is not possible to find a model 41 or a Rimfire Super with a 2008 delivery time,I may even consider a Beretta 87 target.

Well I decided to go with the Kimber Rimfire Super, and I found one at a dealer that I have done business with for many years. Now I have to get my ATT and wait for the gun to arrive so that I can take it to the range and shoot it.
