Now just saying I came across the opportunity to acquire a smith 459 9mm, from what ive read this has a 4 in barrel and mags hold 15 rds.Would this not be a prohibited weapon acct barrel length.The mag issue isnt a big deal as it could be pinned, but i am thinking the barrel could cause problems.

Here is a couple of Smith 3rd Gens that were re-barrelled from prohib to restricted. 3906 single stack and a 5906 double stack which was done by Barry Jensen - Bits of Pieces.

As far as I can see the entire barrel is made from new metal and fitted specifically
to the pistol with the addition of current data stamp over the chamber . It is also my understanding that the original prohibited barrel must be destroyed prior to reclassification and registration of the restricted firearm.

I believe BigUn is correct. I am sending Barry a 5906 (my second one) shortly to be taken from prohib to restricted. Can't have too many 3rd Gen Smittys. Old school steel.
