S&W Model 629 Mountain Gun .44 mag

This a rare one in Canda, but fall in the 12(6) class of handgun. There was one on the EE, I think it is still there, price was $850.00. IMHO, that was a bit on the expensive side. Myself, I will pay the same as any other 629 4 inche,or maybe $50.00 or $100.00 more. So around $700 to $750.00. But often , value of such a rare one is in the eyes of the buyer.

You can get a 6 inch 629 "mountain gun" (I'm guessing that means half-length underlug) as well.

Sorry Capp and Max, the Mountain Gun are 4 inches barrel Stainless steel revolver made By S&W, what make them different from a regular half lug as Capp says is that they bear pencil style barrel, like the one you will find on Mdl 27 or 24. They are lighter in weight than a regular 629 by about 4 to 5 onces. They were introduced for the first time in a limited series of 5,000 in the 629-2 series, product code was 103652. Ref: Standard catalog of S&W 3rd Ed.

S&W mountain guns are N frame, RB, standard barrel profile (the regular 629 uses their bull barrel). They are slightly lighter, and some folks like the barrel better. They are unusual in this country due to the 12 (6) prohibitions, and the fact that S&W didn't make all that many of them. I wouldn't call them "rare" though. - dan

If someone you know got one for sale at a good price, I may look to get one, Like Dan says, I know they are not rare, what I mean by that ,is that they are Hard to find on the market
