S&W Model 65-1 Value

S+W had a fair bit of variation in their barrel lengths, probably because of tooling operators. What was nominally called a 4" bbl could be anywhere from around 99 to 106 mm. Most common with K frames, I've come across quite a few of them over the years. I've not owned any N or L frames with the same situation, so maybe it had something to do with the older more worn K frame machinery. - dan

MUST NOT LEAVE WORK EARLY TO GO HOME AND MEASURE MY K FRAMES................w:h:

It seems to be a fairly regular occurrence amongst the K frames, must have been the tooling setup. Just remember, 4" is not always 4" ;)

I'm going by a phone call and not personal measurements, but the barrel measures 4.2 inches and the gun is classified as restricted, it comes with 2 speed loaders, 2 wallet packs a bunch of 38 and 357 ammo and a bunch of, what he calls, snakeshot and a shoulder holster. So from what I understand $400 is well worth it?

As db mentioned, S&W barrels have a lot of variables. And depending on the physical measurement, could mean Rest, or Prohib. Anywhere from 103mm - 105mm. Not an issue in the US, but as we all know here, can be a deciding factor to purchase or not.

Not only are K frames prone to this, but if you measure a 6" L frame, ie. 586, 686, it's probably 5 7/8". N frame Mod 29s have been known to have the same phenomenon.
