The grandfather of a friend of mine has a model 59 and a 39-2 that he would like to pass on to his grandson but they have discovered that it is not possible, grandson doesn’t have a prohib endorsement and the pistols are post 1946?. My question is does anyone know if there is an after market barrel available that would move these pistols to restricted class, they are currently 4” long. From what I can see from drawings and part numbers they are the same barrels straight no taper so if there is such a thing as a 5” after market barrel it seems as though it would work with the existing slide and bushing.

If he's still around, check out bits and pieces(?) out of Delta, BC. I seem to remember someone getting barrel lengthened by him.

Bits and pieces just did my dads 59. They have a bunch of barrels ready to go apparently

grandson should be able to get 12.7,,he can be given prohibs by his relative,he can own them,,but he can't buy any, basically if he wants to buy other prohibs he needs to ask his relative to buy it,then transfer it to him,

Pointless. S&W 39's & 59's are not worth upgrading. Unfortunately these two 9mm's are in the prohibited class, & not really that attractive even if they get 106mm barrels.
There are literally multiples of new 9mm autos that are better, new designs, better sights, cheaper magazines than converting a couple of old dogs.

The 39 is a gun S&W got right. Mine a very sweet shooter. Single stack makes for a nice slim gun, and genuine mags were still available last year when I bought a bunch. It’s a very popular gun stateside. Since you already have the guns you are only paying for the conversion. To buy the gun and pay to convert just isn’t worth it It has one drawback, and that is the magazine safety which a number of police agencies specified that they wanted.

The 39 is a jewel! The same in many ways to the 52-2. Mine was a sweet shooter I must say.

gotta be pre 1946 manufacture in order to get 12.7 These are not

BOOOOOOOHOOOOOO Because it's prohib, the conversion is worth a lot more money than prohib. People are chasing them like crazy because the majority of us are not privileged mf that have 12(x). You have your own opinion but the truth is there, every time people put a restricted one online it's a guaranteed sell within a week. Plus S&W stopped making them the value will keep climbing.

This is so much BS. Read the regulations.

I think Wiskey1 is trying to say that if the friend wants any sort of 12(7) handguns he should get his grandfather to buy and transfer them before he converts his only other 12(6) to restricted and then has his license downgraded to restricted only
