S&w mp 40

The M&P pistol is what the Glock would be if it had been done right the first time...and the 40S&W is the perfect balance of power and compactness.

Can you tell I'm a fan? (The trigger improves with shooting...)
:agree:

The trigger isn't as bad as everyone says, I don't even notice anymore.

Yeah, it's not super-crisp like a 1911 but the two I've owned (sold one, regretted it and bought another) both have pretty good, predictable triggers. I used mine to win a club match when my custom 1911 jammed up on the first stage too tight to go on (stupid Shok Buf). I find the recoil of the M&P40 to be less snappy than a 9mm Glock to be honest. I really think they're a great deal--and especially now when they cost maybe $75 or $100 less than when I got mine.

How is the recoil campared to my COLT 1911 45 ACP with 200 gr-ers vs shooting the 180 gr-ers in the 40 S&W ?

Recoil is definitely "different", not really "more" or "less". It depends on the particular ammunition you're comparing, and it depends on your grip. Any 45ACP load has a much lower chamber pressure than the 40S&W loads, that's for sure, and that makes it feel like more of a thump than a snap. The heavier frame on your 1911 slows the recoil impulse down A LOT, but it also has a much higher bore axis relative to your hand. Subjectively, using typical factory loads in the classes you describe, I'd wager that you would feel the 45 has more of a "push" and "flip" type of recoil, while the 40 will have more of a "snap".

Not unmanageable, by any stretch, but you will notice the difference.

Yes, that's how I'd describe it exactly. Subjectively to me, I perceive a handgun that has more push and flip to recoil more than one that's snappy, so a steel .45ACP 1911 "feels" like it has more recoil to me than the MP&40.
